Wanago Sushi bar — Restaurant in Manchester

Poor service, disappointing food, and the owner tried to rip us off.

We had a 2 for 1 ramen voucher from Instagram. On entry, we checked that the voucher was valid, which was confirmed by the staff. The starters were pretty poor and ramen was bland. The “veg” was a single whole uncooked and unchopped pak choi. When we went to pay, staff then backtracked the voucher and the owner came out to speak to us. He was extremely aggressive, was happy to argue with my (male) partner, but told me to be quiet when I tried to interject. He claimed he had written the Instagram voucher, and tried to make up additional terms and conditions (which were not advertised anywhere on Instagram) to make the voucher invalid. He was also unable to show us where these terms were written. It was clearly a ploy to get people in and take money off them.

Overall a really terrible experience and false advertisement of the voucher. I left feeling shaken up and upset after the interaction...

Cannot recommend enough. We have been before but not for a good while and a family member reminded us how good the sushi was. We ordered the crab sushi which was honestly the best we've ever had, we regretted not ordering more so next time we will definitely be ordering the larger portion. We also ordered the duck gyoza, this was cooked perfectly with loads of filling and a really good crispy texture, we also ordered some Korean chicken wings which were cooked perfectly with a lot of sauce. For our mains I ordered the orange chicken and upgraded the rice to egg rice. Unbelievable flavours, lovely spice to the orange chicken. Then we also ordered the devil's ramen. It was spicy but was delicious. Cannot fault the whole meal at all. Portions were very generous. Service was brilliant. Staff were welcoming and friendly & we even got to thank the sushi chef personally as it was the highlight...

A really poor show all round, food was tasteless and flat. It really felt like no one at the restaurant took any pride in the place, food presentation was sloppy and unappealing. No customer service to speak of, food came out in under 10mins, far far too quick, and then we were left waiting for drinks for 25mins. The cocktails tbf were nice, but alcohol generally is!

We weren't asked once if our meal was ok, I assume they already knew the answer.

Someone, who I would assume was the owner, was taking up a whole table in the restaurant labelling boxes and it looked really scruffy, bits of stationary everywhere, felt like we'd just walked into someone's house for tea.

The toilets were the same, no care taken over presentation and toiletries all over the place.

There are plenty of nice places on Burton road to eat, I would not recommend choosing Wanago as you'll surely regret...
