We came here on Sunday 16 March for afternoon tea, this was a early Mothers Day treat for me, really wish we hadn't bothered, the place it's self is lovely although wasn't so sure about the 2 calor gas heaters, one was on the other wasn't, we were welcomed with all smiles, shown to our table, we had our dog with us too, the afternoon tea came out, look lovely, looks can be deceiving! 2 of the sandwiches had chicken and bacon mayo, the kind you get from the supermarket in little tubs, think they had run out and tried to make it stretch over 2 sandwiches, not enough to go around, 1 egg mayo, tuna and sweetcorn, and cheese, small piece of pork pie, 1 small piece of ginger cake, a slice of chocolate tray bake, and a very dry stale scone, with jam and squirty cream ( who puts squirty cream on a scone!) Halfway though eating the lady who runs the place came over to a photo of us, bit strange as we was in the middle of eating, didn't ask if everything was OK, just wanted a photo, my daughter who is vegan, had vegan sausage roll, avocado and tomato, cheese and onion, cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, chocolate Brownie, a chocolate pot, again with squirty cream, and scone with jam and squirty cream already on and a cherry bakewell (wasn't sure if this was actually vegan so she didn't eat it) when the young girl came to clear the table, I did mention to her that my scone was rock hard and wasn't very nice, she just said oh sorry about that, like they already knew it wasn't that fresh, I had to actually ask if it could be swapped for something else, dont think your suppose to ask and just pay for it, definitely not worth almost £38 I wouldn't...
Read moreWe stopped in Miss B's Tea Rooms for a late breakfast on Saturday and ordered mocha, lemon lemonade (no available, we got raspberry one instead), scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon and an omelette with mushrooms, bacon and onion.
The mocha was OK, it was very sweet and there was lots of chocolate drink powder on the bottom of the cup, the lemonade was very refreshing. The omelette was really nice, however the quantity of side coleslaw was a teaspoon! The scrambled eggs were very dried, but really what disappointed me was that they sliced the butter and left it on the hot toast - by the time we got the food the butter was melting on toast. The staff didn't ask if this was how we wanted the toasts served, we expected the butter would be on the side. Anyway, I couldn't have any of toast. The salmon was good but overall the food was tasteless.
Despite the food was served promptly, we were waiting ages for someone to check if everything was OK with the food - the staff disappeared. Same when we wanted to pay the bill. The staff was nowhere to find...
The place has character and it reminds me of old, traditional tea tooms, especially when they play old music. But the experience with staff and tasteless food put me off from this place so much, next time I will try somewhere else. I think Miss B's Tea Rooms had passed its time of excellent,...
Read moreTook forever to actually be served. We are a family with dietary restrictions. I have a boy with cmpa and myself / daughter coeliac disease (gluten free) I asked if they had gf bread which they did. When I chose mine, I was asked if I was sure I wanted it as wouldn't be nice on gluten free bread. I found this quite rude. I dont have a choice!! On food arrival my daughters toastie was actually just a sandwich and my boys toast was burnt on one side. Which is why he wouldn't eat it. Two young girls helping out, clearly useless. The one who bought our food stood staring at me as she'd forgot what she was serving then Said oh sorry I'm not with it today. The whole atmosphere of a peaceful breakfast out was ruined with all the shouting in the kitchen, young server's not in correct uniform, not taking orders, bringing food out which was wrong to be taken back, constant shouting of I'll be 2 mins. No highchairs available, not a suitable place for young children at all. I thought it couldn't get any worse until I paid she asked me if everything was OK. I'm not one to complain so said yes to be told well as good as it gets for gluten free. My daughter was very upset by this comment. Needless to say we shall not return. Prior to covid we regularly visited and it was always great. Gone down hill...
