In a word, disappointing!
When booking a table, you will need a credit card as if you don't turn up within 15mins of your booking or cancel the booking within 24hrs of the time, they may choose to charge you £10 for the privilege. I understand the last 18 months have been difficult for restaurants, but I'm not a fan of this approach to customers, as when I book somewhere it would only be an emergency that stops me going, at which point I don't want to be worrying about losing money as well. Normally this would put me off going somewhere, but I'd been told by friends it was worth it.
We arrived 10 minutes early and stood at the front desk (no signage of where to wait or anything, but since that is where the computer was it seemed the right place to be). After nearly five minutes of the bar staff glancing at us but making no attempt to acknowledge us, someone finally came to the computer and took our details.
We were then took to a sticky table with sticky seats and left to look at the menu. After a while our order was taken after a number of attempts because half the items we ordered were unavailable.
Starters were served fairly quickly but we found the calamari to be greasy, leaving a puddle of oil on the plate. Taste wise I couldn't complain too much other than the grease. Upon finishing the starters I was then informed that they my main course wasn't available and I would have to choose something else.
In the end I ordered a burger with sweet potato fries which quite frankly looked very poor considering it was in a restaurant. The burger was tasty, but didn't look anything special and the fries looked like over cooked oven fries that had been thrown at the plate from height.
I tried some of the coconut chicken curry which we had been told was not very spicy as my wife was struggling with it and found it to be extremely spicy. I'm quite happy to eat hot curries but don't prefer them as I find it spoils the flavour, but I would have struggled with this one.
After our main course, we asked for dessert menu which then took an age to arrive and were told several items on that were not available either. Considering we visited early evening, with the number of items unavailable, I'm glad we didn't book for any later.
The venue was busy and very noisy, to the point we could hardly hear the staff when ordering, not very good for a meal for two.
Our server was friendly and clearly embarrassed when having to tell us what appeared to be half the menu was unavailable. Frankly, she is the only reason this is a 2 star review rather than one! However though the restaurant was clearly busy there were other members of staff who appeared to be doing very little and standing around leaving everything to a few others. I also observed a member of staff serve a nearby table by leaning over the back of the bench seating while reaching round the customer to drop a plate on the table in front of them, to their surprise.
All in all, we found it so disappointing it spoilt our night to the point we ended up...
Read moreHaving pre booked at venue which must be used to large numbers due to proximity to concert venue . Surprisingly looked quiet compared to adjoining restaurants but could see people walking away . Host attended to us and immediately said it was around an hour for food to arrive . Obviously I was trying to work out if this would affect our concert timings and I asked why so long . She said it was because it was a new menu to which I replied “ well that’s not really my issue “ She then accused me of being rude which I certainly wasn’t and she proceeded to throw our menus on the table and walk off . Returned and says it’s not her fault and again said I was rude . Our waitress then attended to us as she was lovely. However even though the main menu was out and we chose from it we were then told it was the reduced event menu ( even More strange why it would be an hr) we promptly ordered simple mains so we wouldn’t be late and were then surprised they arrived after 20mins. This was also annoying as could have prob had a longer more relaxed meal. the food was ok but my chilli was more like child sized and I’ve had more as a taco topping . Poor value at over £15 We did get a discount without asking so wonder if host regretted her interaction with us . I honesty think hospitality isn’t the job for her as I don’t think I’ve met a more miserable , surly rude...
Read moreWhat a brilliant place. Was brought here for my birthday. The atmosphere straight off was really good. Music not too loud and great vibe from staff. Table was reserved so no waiting time. Sat down and Yohan (Think that's how you work it) was our host. Very helpful and was able to order our sons food straight away. This arrived in no time, fresh and hot. Asked which cocktail is recommended a I'm a rum fan, so the Rum Runner was recommended. Had 4 of these as they are so nice. Was even given one of the house cocktails on the house as it was my birthday. Food chosen was from the specials section and cannot recommend the Xinxim enough. Flavourful and well presented. Really good first experience and already planning the next. Staff were brilliant and cheerful.
Came back here for another visit and another birthday. Again another great visit... Tamara the waitress there was brilliant and met our needs. A great member of the team. I had the Dominican Goat Curry this time round. The waitress warned me that it was very spicy which is good because I don't get warned at many places. This was spicy however for me wasn't too the point where I didn't...
