PizzaExpress — Restaurant in Metropolitan Borough of Solihull

Attempted to order a take out pizza for my partner alongside our meals and was told I'd have to wait and go and order from a separate till when we had finished our meal, to which I pointed out that we would have to wait an extra 20 minutes after our meal for the other pizza to be cooked. This wasn't really the issue, but was just a small inconvenience and lack of common sense, the real issue was when I tried to use my NUS discount card which allows 20% off on Sundays... yet I was told that I wasn't allowed to use it? After battling back and forth with the poor waitress going to and from her manager 4 times and after showing her on my phone the terms and conditions that CLEARLY state 20% off with a valid NUS card on a Sundays, the manager proceeded to tell the young waitress (who was already flustered enough as it was!) that they were getting rid of the NUS Sunday's and it just hadn't been removed from the official site yet... not really my problem! Finally they agreed to 'honour' my NUS discount (we only decided to eat here because of this, so I wasn't willing to pay full price!), shortly after I contacted Pizza Express and was told that they ARE NOT removing the 20% NUS Sunday discount and they were sorry I was 'misinformed'.

Clearly they were close to missing their end of week targets and felt as though they needed to abuse the system, funnily enough the couple next to us were having the same issue when trying to pay with their Tastecard!

Food is lovely (despite our dishes arriving with green olives not black like the menu states) but do check your bill/prepare yourself for a 10 minute argument with management and staff if you try for any discount (that is well within...

Went here after a busy day, heard great things about this place. Thought I'd try it with my colleague.

Was really looking forward to it as the menu seemed quite appealing.

Sadly this didn't last long when I got the food. The portion size was actually very small, had I know I would've opted for the larger one. Even my colleague (who's been there before) stated that it doesn't look right, there was hardly any sauce or cheese on the pizza and the pizza was quite small. What I thought was cheese initially was actually toppings and the sauce was mainly on the crust, the centre didn't have enough, but the little I did have it did taste good, such a shame it was throughout the entire pizza.

Had halloumi bites on the side which were extremely greasy (us I know it's cheese and deep fried) but this was very greasy you could see the collation of liquid at the bottom, some pieces were so small it was just crumbs, really disappointed with these, massive avoid on this item.

Overall spent about £20 pp but we're still left hungry, my colleague stated their regular branch isn't like this. Maybe something needs changing, had it been busy I could've understood. But there wasn't any rush only a few tables.

They offer toilet facilities which are clean, which is good.

Would I return: maybe, I might give this place another chance. Would I reorder what I had, possibly not, but I might order it again to see if anything has changed or if it's actually that way...

Awful... On arrival restaurant was quite empty but we were told it would be a wait. As we are taken to our table by the manager we were told "we only have one chef so may be a wait" ... We were hungry, happy to wait so stayed. Wish we hadn't... The one chef situation seemed to have monopolised the day for all the staff on the floor, far too many for the amount of people eating. People were turned away at the door after being told there would be 30 minute waits, each time people walked away look bewildered when the restaurant was so empty. The manager, cook and another member of staff (whom the whole time stood by the till biting her nails) went outside for a cigarette in full view of the restaurant... During this time more people were turned away as they started leaving the nec from the dog show...( clearly because the Cook was having a cigarette!) not only smoking but stroking the dogs walking past, when they came in the manager washed her hands the cook took off her coat and went straight behind the cooking area and started making pizzas...disgusting. I have never felt so compelled to write a review like this, I felt so sorry for anyone about to eat. Clearly a restaurant badly managed and more a place for staff to congregate and socialise. I witnessed 3 people including the cook drinking fizzy bottles of drink in the restaurant. I wouldn't waste...
