Came for lunch with a friend and everything that could have gone wrong - did. No one greeted us on entry, we walked in and were then advised the kitchen doesn't open for another 15 minutes - which we were fine with and asked to order a drink while we wait for the restaurant to open. For some strange reason they asked for my friend's card to open a drinks tab, even though we explicitly said we are waiting for a table. Not an issue, just strange. Another table of two ladies arrived before opening time after us, who also had not booked - however they were shown straight to the restaurant and had their orders taken, while we were not approached at all, we were still sitting and waiting for someone to seat us. As this was all still before opening time, we were very confused about the diversity in service. We had to ask a waitress if it was possible to sit down and order some food - very strange. We then ordered food - the calamari and humous were bearable, however the half "roasted" chicken was an absolute shambles. Tasteless, it definitely did not taste fresh either - seemed like yesterday's roast was being served for lunch today - abysmal. My friend's nachos were awful and the poor girl was trying to eat them anyway not to cause any fuss, but we were at our boiling point at that point, so we had to say something. The waitress approached the table and I sent the chicken back, a minute later my friend sent her food back and informed the waitress the food was inedible and we really did not want to pay for it. To make matters worse, there were dirty salt and pepper shakers on all tables we could see near us. Covered with what looked like other guests dirty hand prints/food leftovers. Me and my friend are both running restaurants for 15+ years so at this point we would have expected a manager to approach us - even if as a courtesy. Instead - we were both ignored after this point; the waitress was walking past us not making eye contact and the manager never looked in our direction - so we had no clue if the waitress had approached the manager with our complaints, as no one came back to our table to let us know. We eventually asked for the bill - we were happy to find that at least the manager had taken off all of the food, which we appreciated - but it definitely seemed strange he never approached our table to apologise or to understand what had gone wrong. It seemed like the staff were bent on ignoring the customers, they seemed fed up and like they did not want any guests in the restaurant at all. Sorry we ruined your day guys. We learned our lesson and will...
Read moreAlright, let's get into a review of Sky By The Water at Resorts World Birmingham. This place deserves a solid four stars, so hold onto your seats. They've got some real gems, but there are a few downsides too. Here we go!
Let's start with the positives, shall we? First and foremost, they know how to whip up a mean Hendrick's and tonic. Trust me, when it comes to enjoying a refreshing drink, they've got it down pat. Sip on that delightful concoction and let the worries of the world fade away.
Now, let's talk about the view. Okay, it's Birmingham we're talking about, so we can't expect rolling hills or stunning landscapes. But for what it's worth, the view from Sky By The Water is pretty decent. You can soak in the urban charm and marvel at the cityscape as far as the eye can see. It's as good as it gets when you're enjoying a meal or a drink in Birmingham.
Speaking of meals, the food at Sky By The Water is a winner. They've got the culinary game on lock. From delectable starters to mouthwatering mains, their menu will tantalize your taste buds. So, if you're looking for a top-notch dining experience, you won't be disappointed here.
And let's not forget about the price. Considering the quality of food and drinks you get, the prices are actually pretty reasonable. You won't have to break the bank to enjoy a satisfying meal or a well-crafted drink. It's a win-win situation for your taste buds and your wallet.
Now, onto the downsides. The acoustics at Sky By The Water are something else. It's like they designed the place to amplify every sound, including the echoes of your own voice. So, if you're planning on having a private conversation, think again. Your words might bounce around the room like a ping-pong ball on steroids.
And brace yourself for some loud music. If you're in the mood for a quiet, intimate dinner, you might have to shout over the tunes. It's as if they're trying to create a party atmosphere, even when you're just trying to enjoy a peaceful meal. So, prepare for a bit of auditory assault.
Lastly, make sure you don't get seated directly under the air conditioning unit. Trust me, you don't want to turn into an icicle while you're trying to savor your food. If you find yourself in that chilly predicament, don't hesitate to ask for a seat change.
So, there you have it. Sky By The Water at Resorts World Birmingham earns its four stars with a well-crafted Hendrick's and tonic, decent views, great food, and reasonable prices. Just be ready for some echoing acoustics, booming music, and the occasional chill factor. Enjoy your...
Read moreNine of us came this evening for celebratory birthdays. Arrived at 8:20 pm and at 22:22 someone has only just received their main. Service so slow sadly. We had a few calamari to share as a starter and some tempura vegetables (tender stem broccoli) so actually tempura vegetable. Two of the starters did not arrive. Correction one arrived with the mains! The other is still MIA. Most of us ordered sirloin steaks. Mine came but it was definitely a rump steak. Tasted lovely. Two who had ordered sirloins had tough and sinewy food. Really gristly. My dad (a chef) would have sent that back to the butcher before serving it to any customers. Don’t these chefs check the quality of their steaks when the stock arrives? My cousin complained and the manageress just didn’t seem to care no apology and a half hearted question of did she want something else or another steak - she said no to steak and just asked for a piece of salmon. It arrived 10 minutes or more later - on a very small plate with no garnish nothing. I was wholly embarrassed that a catering establishment would consider that acceptable. My cousin lost her appetite and actually didn’t eat it - I mean it’s now 22:30. Totally disappointed by the way the staff treated her. Another guest is a coeliac and there is no provision on the menu. I can’t begin to go through the issues she had. Birthday boys food was also just dry and sad. This review would end up being a lesson on how not to run an establishment. Worst still the “boys” come to resort world weekly and rotate the restaurants they attend. On other occasions when the restaurant isn’t busy the food has been better. Tonight it was clearly an off day and all I can say if this restaurant is busy then go elsewhere. Miller and Carter might be a better shout if you want a steak! A new waitress (Grace) has just taken our order for puds…. this waitress seems very switched on and on the ball. Please note the waitress who originally served us was new and she tried her best but was let down by the food, the kitchen etc etc. customer service is not a top priority for this company.
Further to my original post some of the party ordered deserts and they were well received. Also no complaints about the waiting staff. Finally the restaurant did reduce the overall bill to reflect the...
