The Mason's Arms — Restaurant in Metropolitan Borough of Solihull

I decided to check out the Masons after their refurb and was rather impressed with the decor. However one of the establishments Chefs whilst wearing his Chef Whites was eating behind us in the main restraunt. This Chef whilst eating was slapping his chops as he was eating the sound alone enough to put anyone off but to then see him clearly wearing his uniform not even covered up was a bit of a shock. I a front of house superior working for a 5* hotel and my colleague a 5* Hotel Head Chef were appalled and had messaged the staff via their Facebook page to informally let them know, I then went to the toilet and on my return was ambushed by a member of their team, who I later discover is in fact the manager and he bluntly approaches me saying "have you got something to say to me", I was very confused and fely slightly threatened and proceeded to ask who he was as I had been in the toilet he then explained and I said well yeah I was just approaching the bar to have a word with you actually. He said that he was offended that I had mentioned his staff and asked us to leave as he squared up to me in his bar and said as we left that in future don't bother coming back...funnily we had just been saying prior to this how nice an establishment it was and how impressed we were with the refurbishment. Visited this bar last night as me and my girlfriend came down from Scotland to visit family in Solihull. Really looking forward for a good night out and had been advised to visit The Mason Arms and heard good things about it. How WRONG could we be.

Waited a while to get served at the front bar which we didn't mind because we appreciated it was a Saturday night. However when we eventually got served we handed over a Scottish £20 note only to be told by the women behind the bar "sorry we dont accept these". We said but it is sterling and its all we have she went "sorry we have had loads of fakes and cant accept it as my manager has told us". We were not only mortified but also embarrassed at this absolute ludicrous rule.

Sterling is STERLING! I could understand if it was a euro note!! A man kindly swapped his £20 over so we could pay for our drinks. We stayed for one drink which by the way the glasses stunk and were filthy. Will never be returning here again and will be warning others about this as well.

Great pub for food and drinks. After searching around Solihull for somewhere that wasn't going to cost us a fortune for lunch we wondered past this gem of a pub.

The interior looked great with a traditional pub setting with plenty of room. It was a hot day so we sat outside where there was also plenty of seating and televisions for sports.

The bar has a great range of drinks including craft beers. The service was friendly and the service is fast.

The food selection is also very good with quite a range. We ordered the chicken wing platter with honey sauce and the sauce was amazing. Also ordered was a shiitake mushroom burger which was huge! Great value for money! All the food was very much enjoyed.

I would recommend this pub to anyone! Great if just stopping by for a quick drink or for a meal. Thank you to all the team! Great...
