Having moved closer to Leatherhead, we just got around to trying this Indian restaurant.
Definitely on the pricier side of things - £113 for a family of 4 (2 young kids had a starter as a main), popadoms, 2 mains, 2 sides, 2 rices, a drink each and 2 lassies for “dessert”. Probably why there are no prices on the main menu on their site.
Food was okay, fresh and tasty and not too much salt or ghee like you get in some places. The kids ate all their Tikka lamb and chicken where we asked to ensure they weren’t spicy which can be the case for this dish when asked to ensure otherwise for a young delicate pallet. That was a positive.
I’d say their vegetarian dishes could be slightly stronger in varied ingredients, the usual potatoes/onions took over as the main ingredients in most dishes. They had an interesting chefs special menu but the curries we had weren’t as unique or as appealing as I thought they might be.
The main issue was clearly ordering and being read back the menu selections and then being given a chicken version of one of the vegetarian mains and then biting into a piece of chicken as a vegetarian of 28 years wasn’t great! I did say to the guy “that was a serious mistake” and they swapped it right away (looked like they gave the wrong plate from the kitchen as it was already ready). Appreciate accidents happen, albeit something that has happened a number of times I can count on one hand in over 2.5 decades, but there was little apology and good will gesture or compensation, which left a sour/chicken taste in my mouth!
Would have liked to have given some of the other menu a go some other time but for that reason and the disproportionate cost/refinement, I’ll unlikely be going back. For the amount ordered and cost involved, I would have expected top tier taste and service. Spent something similar for a three courses meal for two in London at a Michelin starred Indian...
Read moreThis restaurant is absolutely AMAZING. I came from Canada and specifically wanted to eat here, my expectations were EXCEEDED. The entire experience is exquisite. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and it feels like a touch of home (India), it definitely makes the experience more immersive! The Tandoori King Prawn Puri and Tikka starters are absolutely to die for! I also noticed that the menu is vegetarian friendly🌱! I thoroughly enjoyed the Ceylon Curry and ordered extra to take home. The Naan was sooooo fluffy! As someone who eats Indian food often, this was beyond amazing! I enjoyed some Raitha and Coconut Rice with my curry! As someone who cannot have a lot of spice and has allergies, they were so very accommodating! The servers were amazing and the service was beyond excellent. The manager Raj goes out of his way to ensure the experience is a memorable and enjoyful one! I have been to many Indian restaurants but this one most definitely touched my heart❤️ I will DEFINITELY be on another flight back to enjoy the lovely service :) and amazing food! The kindness here and the love for their craft is what makes this experience so beautiful! (Not to mention the yummiest food!!!)! Oh my goodness, I ordered so much dessert, the coconut and pineapple ice cream was RAVISHING!!! They also have kid friendly cute little ice creams which is so thoughtful! Thank you Five Rivers Leatherhead for making this experience so awesome! I cannot wait to rave about this restaurant...
Read moreI Ordered 2 vegetable curries (1 Ceylon and one tikka masala), veg somosas, 2 pilau rices, 1 bombay potatoes, 1 peshwari naan, 2 poppadoms, 1 onion salad and 1 mint sauce. Get the drift? Yes I am a vegetarian. I was charged over £37 when it totals £35 = I was over charged, not only was I over charged, I received 2 lamb somosas instead of vegetable ones. I have made a huge effort not to eat meat for years, and am now sick and ill from the meat. The naan bread was undercooked, wet and soggy. They also charged me for mint sauce and forgot to explain that the order came with a complimentary one, which meant that one is now going in the bin (a great waste of food). I called to complain about the meat somasas, and they kindly sent someone back 35mins later with cold, bitter vegetable ones and ANOTHER mint sauce that I didnt ask for, as well as a 75p refund for the one they tried to scam me with. I asked for the item receipt twice as I payed by card, once when I orginally ordered and again when I called to complain and they returned, I never got it. RIP OFF. Thanks five rivers, for an upset stomach...
