Yesterday, on our way home from Chessington, I stopped by your pub with my friend and our two children. Due to getting soaked on the rides, I had to change into some of my partnerās spare clothes that I found in the car. I only mention this because I felt noticeably self-conscious about my appearance, and itās important context for what happened next.
From the moment we arrived, I felt uncomfortable with the way I was treatedāparticularly by a staff member named Ryan, who I was later told is the shift manager. I couldnāt shake the feeling that I was being judged based on how I looked, and this made an already uncomfortable situation feel much worse.
We placed our order through the app, including my meal and an additional side of cheese. Iāve regularly visited Wetherspoons in the Bristol area for years and have always received the side of cheese separately when requested. On the rare occasions it was mistakenly added to my wrap, staff would kindly apologise and bring me another portion without issue.
However, when I approached Ryan to explain that the cheese had been put in my wrap instead of on the side for my chips, he was incredibly rudeāborderline aggressive. He refused to give me the cheese I had clearly ordered and paid for. Instead, he offered to either take my meal and remake it (which felt unnecessarily wasteful), or worse, remove the cheese from my wrap and put it on my chips. I felt humiliated and belittled by how he handled the situation.
I want to be clearāthis isnāt about the money or expecting fine dining standards. Itās about how I was treated. A small gesture of goodwill, like providing the cheese I paid Ā£1.60 for, wouldāve cost the business very little but meant a great deal to me. Instead, Ryan seemed more interested in proving a point than showing any level of customer care.
Iāve never experienced such unkind service, especially from a manager. As someone who truly enjoys dining out, this left me feeling extremely anxious and upset. Worse still, this all unfolded in front of two children. No one should be made to feel that wayāespecially not in an environment that should feel welcoming.
The world can be hard enough as it is. A little kindness and understanding, even in casual dining, goes a long way. I sincerely hope you will speak with Ryan about his conduct, because Iād hate for someone more vulnerable to be on the receiving end of that kind of treatment.
Also just to confirm you can see I've only ever left reviews on any establishment for 5*. I am not a Karen, I do not go around leaving reviews for a hobby this is just something that really made me feel upset and...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo. The pub has finally had some money spent on it. Everything that has been done is to a very high standard, and the toilets especially are stunning. My previous review focused on how disgusting they were, but now, are simply stunning. Now comes the unfortunate but in this updated review. Although the toilets have been completely overhauled and are fantastic, the staff and management clearly don't want to look after them. I visited on a Saturday, early evening around 5:30 and Although the cleaning sheet had been scribbled on, they had obviously done simply that. The first cubicle had a broken lock, the second one had a broken loo seat that was about to fall off, and they both has standing pools of water on the floor. They did put a cone out saying slippery surface though!š No doubt this disregard will continue, and all the hard work and money will have been a waste. No wonder it took so long to get them refurbished in the first place. Come on, look after what you have been given! I simply can't understand the...
