Polite Vicar — Restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Understaffed and understocked, led to me and my family wondering around aimlessly looking for a clean table to sit at (to no avail), finally being offered a tall bench to sit at (brilliant for my 4 old 🤔). The table was cleaned while we sat at it, then the cleaning products were left on the table. We sat and decided what to order then went to the bar to place our order as instructed, several things were unavailable so then had to spend more time going back over the menu to decide what to have out of what was available, in hindsight we should have left at this point as things didn't improve! We were told that my Partner could not have the Sunday roast as they had stopped serving it, yet it clearly stated on the menu that this is available all day. The drinks situation was good up until I asked what was available for kids, they literally had only one drinks option for kids, just one! So the order was finally placed and I opened a tab, I figured that it's not that busy now so we at least won't have to wait long, but wait we certainly did, it took a timely nudge after about an hour to at least get my 4 year old daughters 2nd option brought out, this hour however was chopped up by the visit of a waitress advising us that there was no Naan bread to go with the Tikka curry my eldest daughter ordered, not a worry, I won a bet with my Partner that before the good arrived we would be told something else would not be available, bittersweet! So onto the food, well the chips that came with 3 of the meals were ok, the garlic bread that came with 2 of the meals were ok too, the Tikka and rice seemed to go down well aswell, but......dry cold peas, solid mash that looked like it had been stood a while pressed under the weight of another plate, a pie with pastry that was akin to a car tyre in every way other than colour, burgers that literally made a loud clonking sound when tapped on the side of a plate. Let's just say this was the worst restaurant experience of my life, truly awful, I wasn't expecting perfection, I mean it's relatively inexpensive, but I'm sure that I could have gone to McDonald's, spent a he'll of a lot less, received better service and better food, and I'm no big fan of McDonald's. Come here for my birthday last year and really couldn’t fault it me and my family had a really lovely experience and the food was amazing so for my birthday this year I thought to book here again what a horrible mistake that was customer service? This place has none especially the guy bringing my food to my table the attitude on you is atrocious! I ordered drinks on the app 30 minutes I waited until I went up to the bar and asked for my drinks. I ordered my food and spoke to a lady and explained I wanted a dessert that was ordered to come out with the mains she said not a problem just remind me when I come back to check on you this lady never actually came and checked at any point of my meal if everything was ok the desert was brought out while we were still eating the starter but still not enough to ruin our time here or to even really complain but when my main was served by the man that was mentioned above I can only say my experience went from pretty bad to AWFUL food was slammed down onto the table with an awful attitude and face on him while I was still talking to him he just turned and walked away so i shouted him 3 times for him to acknowledge me he stormed back over where i asked if i could get some mayonnaise he walked away and under his breath said jesus while pulling a face he handed the mayo to another employee and she come and slammed the mayo down infront of me neither of them while at the table asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything else which is basic customer service!! one of the staff came and put a reserved sign onto the table while i was still eating my meal (rude) again never actually asked if my food was ok. Coming away and going over my receipt i have also noticed i paid full price for the burgers i ordered but you advertised it was buy one get one free excluding a couple of things which we didn't order. This whole experience was awful and definitely ruined my birthday meal i can say the food was actually ok and i really enjoyed my meal in that sense! DO NOT BOOK TO EAT HERE!!

Came here with my ten year old daughter on Sunday. I expected it to be very busy but I was pleasantly surprised to see a relatively empty carpark and plenty of free tables.

We arrived at 13:30, giving us plenty of time to order and eat in time to get to our cinema booking which was at 15:10. I ordered quickly via the app which went through just before 13:40 and our drinks came within minutes so I had high hopes.

I’ll be totally honest in saying we completely lost track of time after this, it was a “Mum and Daughter Day” so we were chatting and laughing a lot but I realised the time after my daughter complained of being starving, and noticed it was 14:38. Just as I got up to ask where our food was, it arrived and was given to us by a waitress who offered no apology for the wait despite this taking a whole hour, no smile, no real words or anything that made me feel she cared about customers at all (the same woman had earlier poked her head out of a fire escape door next to us for a quick vape which blew back in at us - lovely). Staff were also loudly swearing at the bar at one point which I found unprofessional given the time of day.

It’s such a shame as I did used to go there years ago (I’m talking 10+) and absolutely loved it, hence my return with my daughter. The food really was lovely but we were starving by then and also had to rush it which meant I couldn’t enjoy it as much as I’d have liked..

We likely wouldn’t come back purely for the wait time.. I’ve seen other reviews saying the same thing so it’s clearly a regular occurrence and not just a bad day.
