Victoria Hotel — Restaurant in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Terrible - do not go here.

We came into the pub to have a few drinks and some food. We ordered food, and it arrived over an hour later with no apology. It wasn’t remotely overly busy, and we saw a) the chef wondering around the restaurant and b) multiple delivery drivers coming in to collect takeaway orders. Clearly takeaway orders are prioritised which doesn’t make sense - a few reviews say the same thing.

When the waitress appeared with our food, she went to the wrong table, and put down the food. We watched as a man on this table started to eat our chips - in front of the waitress - only to then admit it wasn’t his food. The waitress then picked up the food, and brought it over to us and attempted to serve it as if she wasn’t aware a man had just been eating it. Had we not pointed this out, or had we not seen this, she’d have happily served us with this. When we pointed it out, she didn’t apologise and simply went and replaced the chips. Food was average at best - not worth an hours wait.

The staff in this restaurant are completely apathetic to customers and we certainly won’t be returning. They seem to think over an hours wait for food is the norm - it’s not, especially not for the food in this restaurant. Not recommended!!! "Ember Inns" standard fare, you would think, but, no!!!! First and last time there, we were visiting Stoke-on-Trent from Liverpool, arrived at 13.00pm Saturday 3rd November, it was not busy, ordered quickly, but, service was terrible, had to ask "twice" where food was, "90 minutes later" it at last arrived, I had ordered "Scampi and Chips" (£9.29), this is what I got, "it was cold"!!! (See pictures)!!! We "complained" and left!!! "NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL"!!!

We shall not be returning, the two ladies I was with are from "Dublin" and have left with a "very poor" opinion of "Ember Inns" indeed!!! Furthermore, you should also be aware that there were two "families" on tables close to ours, whose children were very well behaved, but, were also waiting for their food and finding it "very hard" to reassure them it would be soon!!! Quite frankly, the "service and the food" was "absolutely awful" and as a business owner myself, the standard of "management" at the "Victoria Hotel", especially, for a "Saturday afternoon" was, to put it simply, "non-existent"!!!! Main course was OK but the portion was small. The pudding was burnt. The service was diabolical. We returned today to give this place another go. I wish we hadn't! We were forced to pre order our food, what a joke that was, it then came to our table one hour and ten minutes after we had sat down. They had also ran out of some of the food we had ordered. The pie I ate was good but the veg was barely edible, over cooked and dry, most of food around the table was left uneaten. It is a good job the person who asked for no egg did not have an allergy as I watched the managed try and intercept the meal to remove the egg before we saw. The same plate of food was brought back out, a disgrace! They did not think or care to ask if there was an allergy. The three children's meals were served ten minutes after the adults mains. There was not even an apology for this service, it was mentioned, but the proceeded to completely forget to serve one persons pudding. I wish I could give this pub no stars but I have to settle for pointing out the terrible service...
