Birria Bella — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

If you're like me, and you have searched for a restaurant that serves birria tacos with consommé for a while, I would definitely recommend you visit Birria Bella and give it a try!

In my experience, their food will definitely satisfy the craving you may have after seeing any viral birria taco videos online from 'foodie' content creators. While I admit, as other comments have stated, their consommé was a bit bland, their tacos are good and the fries that come in the munch box are delicious. The service and the seating was a bit awkward as there was no obvious waiter/waitress that guided us to sit and take our order. The entire process felt a bit unorganised as we sat in the tight outdoor seating area.

I would recommend the munch box for sharing as it can be a bit expensive(£20) if just for one person. If you're sharing the munch box with others then I would also recommend everyone to order a main or something extra for themselves to make sure you're full but also have an enjoyable experience where you can try various foods the restaurant offers.

Since my first experience I have not returned, however, I would be open to eating at Birria Bella again if I have that craving for...

Waited for the best part of an hour and no food. Asked earlier and were told that we were next but then two tables’ orders came out with no sign of ours. When we asked again we were told it would be another 5 minutes- they hadn’t even started making it by the looks of things. No one told us there was a significant wait for food and the waiter was very brusque (if a little rude) with us when we asked to just pay for the drinks as we couldn’t wait any longer. My kids left hungry. Poor experience. I would not go back.

Edit: in their reply to this post, they claim that we were made aware of the wait and that the food was plated and shown to us before we left. I’m not trying to be in the business of causing problems for businesses and I do hope that they have addressed the problems that I have brought up here- I have been completely honest. We were extremely patient and communication was very poor. We were not made aware of the wait time and not shown the plates dishes. This was our experience and to say otherwise questions my integrity. An apology would have been much more appropriate. I wish them...

The change in the birria broth compared to last time I came (in the old place) is very welcome. Good food. A few comments though: The beef birria broth was a little bitter and lacking of more body and salt. The bitterness probably for overcooking the chillies. The broth that came from a mushroom quesabirria was way better. It was salted. The beef quesabirria was a bit blant. Not much flavour coming out of it and the meat was a bit dryer for a birria. It could use a bit more salt and probably some other thing on the cooking process in the broth (if you cook it in the broth) The fried chicken taco was sweat. Nothing wrong with it, I was just expecting someting more savoury for a mexican-style taco We were expecting the cheese to have more flavour on the quesabirrias but that was not the case. We have found that Provolone and also Lancashire Creamy/Tasty melts well and both have a nice flavour for quesadillas if you guys ever want to give it a try.
