Visited on a week day last week with my husband. He ordered the salt beef sandwich and I ordered the sausage stottie. We also got 2 coffees. Coffees were good. Service was friendly, we had a nice chat with the 2 female baristas. Unfortunately my husband's sandwich was apparently forgotten about so after another 15 mins of my stottie arriving he went back inside to ask about it as we sat outside. Yeah it was forgotten. My stottie arrived. Inside was the smallest rock hard hocky puck of an overcooked sausage pattie I've ever had 😂 actually couldn't eat it, it was rock hard. So 2 stars, good coffee, usually good cakes, but definitely don't recommend the rock hard sausage puck stottie and my husbands salt beef sandwich was soggy bread and wet limp salad with a few bits of beef inside, not worth the almost £9 sorry. Have had coffee and cake many times before this from the jesmond branch and always good but this was very disappointing, I hope it's just a one off! Read moreBeautifully presented and tasty plates of food, with a few options for vegetarian or gluten free diners. Really good service. The cakes are wonderful; attractive to look at and delicious to eat! The pots of tea came with miniature egg timers so you could time the perfect cuppa. There's one toilet, which has been decorated with care (there's even a chandelier in there!) and is carefully checked throughout the day, so it was all clean and nicely presented. There aren't that many tables inside the clock tower building, but they also have outside seating and even a couple of containers to provide sofas in a sheltered outdoor space. Parking is free for the first hour and £1 for up to three hours (note the app charges 25p transaction charge, so bring a coin with you), and there are lots of spaces. I think we'll be back for the afternoon tea, which must be booked 24 hours in advance. The sourdough pizzas...
Read moreDelightful little cafe. We visited Cake Stories on a rainy Saturday and it was the perfect place to retreat from the misery of the weather. The space is beautifully decorated with a wonderful display of paper lantern light covers in different colours. The space felt warm and inviting. There is extra seating outside, ideal for warmer/drier days.
We purchased:
1 x Monster Brownio 1 x Peanuts Butter Cookie Dough 1 x Flat White 1 x Italian Stallion Sandwich 1 x San Pellegrino Orange
Total: £19.20
The Monster Brownio was beautifully flavoured and perfectly balanced with the butter icing. Not at all sickly.
The Italian Stallion Sandwich was again very nice, the pesto and sourdough bread were particularly good.
All in all, Cake Stories is a pleasant experience and well worth a visit, even if just for its brilliant selection of cakes.
Oh and it's...
