Stunning. Just stunning. Perfect addition to the Ouseburn, giving the area a much needed cuisine option. Just do yourself a favour and book a table. Can't wait to be back soon.
We visited Miso on a 5pm Saturday reservation, opting for an earlier dinner.
Food:
2 x Miso Ramen (10hr Tori Paitan (Chicken) Broth, Chashu Pork, Charred Leek, Soy Egg, Kikurage Mushroom, House Pickles, Chilli Oil, Shoyu Tare)
This Ramen was sublime. The broth had a fantastic umami quality that set the stage for the individual elements of the bowl. The noodles had the right amount of bite, the pork was tender and the charred leek had a lovely bitterness.
1 x Yakitori Chicken Thigh
The chicken was succulent.
1 x Kushiyaki Charred Corn dipped in Nori Butter
Really well cooked and the nori butter gave the dish a delicious flavouring.
1 x Gyoza Chicken
1 x Bean Sprouts in Chilli Sauce
This one blew me away. It was refreshing with every bite then followed by a wonderful spice.
2 x Lemonade
2 x Ginger Beer
Total: £64.50
Venue: The space has a warm, rustic, Japandi aesthetic, with exposed brick and details of cool toned wood. The size of the venue is small but that makes it perfect for an intimate dinner with a partner. I can imagine it is the perfect space to book out for a birthday/party if available.
Service: We were greeted by a number of staff members upon entering the premises which made us feel welcomed immediately. This theme continued for the rest of the evening. The waiting staff were attentive and polite to us and all tables around.
If I was to add one tiny edition, it would be for a sofa drinks menu to be added to the drinks menu for those who don't...
Read moreWe’d been looking for somewhere to eat before a night out around Ouesburn and sort stumbled across this place as we were walking along. The menu looked interesting and the interior looked pretty cool so we decided to give it a go.
It was quite busy but the guy behind the bar was very helpful and found us a table quickly and got us seated.
Menu’s were presented very quickly and we were given a full run through of all the dishes by our a very friendly owner, who gave a run down on the general what to do which were the popular dishes and the specials.
It’s generally a small plates menu, but they do serve large bowls of ramen, which looked fantastic. We went for a selection of small plates which is what most other people seemed to be going for.
The drinks came quickly, Kirin on draught, which was fantastic. Then bit by bit the small plates arrived. Apologies for the pictures in the review but pretty much as each one arrived we dived straight in as they looked and smelled amazing.
Highlights were all of them to be honest, but stand out were the belly pork skewers and the by the bay mushrooms. With the mushrooms coming from my home town of Whitley Bay, as we were told by the owner. The steak onglet with an amazing potato salad and the spicy meatballs were also fantastic. All the dishes were so fresh and full of flavour pretty much every dish was wiped clean.
The total was about £90 for two, but that’s with four pints of Kirin, so isn’t too bad in today’s market.
We’ll definitely be back, and we’ll be dragging some friends with us, but we’ll book next time as it seems a very busy and...
Read moreThis place went from a relatively decent ramen spot with well thought out menu to an obnoxious, overpriced “small plates” restaurant with a pretentious menu executed without love or quality that does not reflect the high prices that is asked of customers to pay. From the get go we knew what we were in for as soon as one of the staff had to “explain the menu” (this just means small expensive dishes that “come as they come” served on a table much too small for the multiple plates they bring out so they can break as much profit as possible). This stupid concept used by some places would be less obnoxious if the dishes were of higher quality however from the deep friend chicken dish which clearly wasn’t brined as reflected by its complete lack of flavour or tenderness to the tiny cod dish which looked in presentation much better than on the palate.
The service felt really fake and some staff had an overly friendly yet nervous aura around them, asking customers that still had food on their small sad little plates if they were finished and over explaining every little action they were doing. In my option, just keep it natural, minimal and leave the customers to their own devices as they figure out where their money is going simultaneously trying so hard to look for a reason not to...
