I’ve followed the Northern Rye on Instagram for many months now. When the opportunity came to go to the North East, we made sure we paid a visit!! It wasn’t easy to find by car and we ended down a different dead end road! But we got out of our car and walked down the walkway by the river and finally made it! There were already a queue of people and we joined the line! It was dog friendly too which was a great plus! Couldn’t wait to get to the front to see the many delights that I have been drooling months for!! We plumped for a cinnamon bun, almond croissant, almond & hazelnut praline cruffin, sesame seed sourdough and 2 coffees! We couldn’t wait to try them and had the cinnamon bun and cruffin straight away, hence no photos!! They were both absolutely delicious! And washed down with hot coffee was a perfect start to the morning! I’ve been to many modern bakeries through my travels and this has to be one of the top bakeries in my list!! We made it home later in the day and tasted the sourdough which was amazing! Great crust and a wonderful toasted seedy flavour! Then this morning, we shared the croissant! It still tasted fresh and full of toasted flaked almonds!! We are definitely coming back again! So wished we lived closer!! Perhaps you could open one in North Yorkshire in...

Was craving for a cruffin and was glad to have found Northern Rye. It was my first time visiting this quaint little bakery and my craving was definitely satisfied! The Lemon Cheesecake Cruffin (£3.75) was so delicious and they didn’t skimp out on the filling. It wasn’t overly sweet, neither was it too sour that you couldn’t eat it. Just the right amount of balance and I was so sad when I had finished it because I wanted more!
I also ordered a cinnamon bun (£2.75) and loved how generous they were with the size. Ate that at home after toasting/microwaving it a bit to get it warmed up. Really amazing taste and they were very strong on the cinnamon flavour.
From my visit, it seems like they only have one cruffin flavour, depending on the day that you visit the bakery so I would love to go back to try the other cruffin...

It was massive and well worth the price of £3.90
First bite (devoured, really) in and I was shook. Then I pulled back without thinking much and seeing the layers and crinkles gave me so much pause. Absolutely gorgeous and such clean lines, never seen anything like it.
I wanted to try the tiramsu cruffin but they didn't have it when I visited, maybe next time?
Was also greeted warmly by a friendly young woman - whom I also enquired about the "monkey bread" which I will need to try along with a croissant on my...
