Harvest Canteen — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

The most unwelcoming place i've ever been! Its seems confusing to me to have a coffee shop at the heart of the student hub of Jesmond and not want students to come and spend their money. The atmosphere was so unwelcoming from the moment we walked in. Staff asked us to move tables even though the whole place was empty and we were the only ones there. No wifi. It seems a shame that with so many beautiful coffee shops to chose from in Jesmond this one would rather be empty. I will not be returning nor would I recommend it to any of my friends. Alienating the majority of the population of Jesmond who are students and would otherwise a lucrative market of loyal customers...

It's 9am and I come in for coffee having set off at 6.30am to move my daughter into her uni house. Stood waiting to be served, a guy in front of me, he leaves and I'm waiting to get the attention of the server - no one in the shop at this point, except me. Then a guy whose clearly a regular walks in and starts talking to the server, server ignores me and engages with him, then one of regulae guys party also comes in and gets attention of server. I have to say ' can I get served' - was I invisible!? Might seem minor to the server but this is a no-no in customer service, treat customers with respect. I'm a big indy fan but not sure I'll be back. Frustrating....

This used to be one of the best places around, unfortunately the service just got worse and worse and the food is basically nonexistent now. The ONLY thing that makes me come back now and again is their great coffee. Taking out table service was just the last drop of bad decisions when it comes to management. Definitely needs a...
