The smell of sewage/dirty toilets in the bar area for the last 12 months makes it almost impossible to enjoy your drink, which is such a shame as it has been my favourite bar in Newcastle for the past 10 years. It has by far the best selection of lagers and ales out of any bar in Newcastle but it’s now in desperate need of some TLC. The male toilets are disgusting which is obvious before you even enter due to the smell in the bar area. My partner said that although the female toilets don’t smell half as bad, the hot tap on one of the sinks has been broken for almost 3 years now! I’ve been a regular at Lady Greys since it opened in 2013 and it’s such a shame to see it going rapidly downhill. Nothing has been done to it since it first opened which is clear to see. I remember back in 2017 when NUFC got promoted back to the Premier League after beating Preston at home and we went to Lady Greys after the match to find the whole squad in there celebrating! The pub was previously called 'The Adelphi' and was very much a football pub (walls were covered in memorabilia). Its only been the Lady Grey the last several years. It has changed a lot since then. Its a mixture of clientele for one. Though some football fans do still frequent on match days (probably because of the ale) its crowd in the evenings is usually theatre goers, and people out for nice drink. As the Lady does serve a nice selection of ales. Clean and tidy, nice decor, it has with a degree of style, and nice atmosphere. A good spot if your out on a date...
Read moreOne of my favourite pubs in the town for its relaxed atmosphere and easy going clientele. They've got a brilliant outdoor setup at the moment with pergola type coverings with heaters on one side (needs pre booking) and European style street seating next to the building. Gives great wind and elements cover. Also people are bringing their dogs which is nice.
Our party wasn't drinking that night but we had a lovely catchup over teas and soft drinks. Our server was lovely and being able to use the toilets was a bonus.
Can recommend for chilled out drinks and catch ups but book if you would...
