The Brass Monkey — Restaurant in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council

When we arrived we asked had they a table for 9. He said he would have one but we would have to be out within the hour as he needed it back. We said that was grand as we were only having mains. We asked for a high chair 3 times then end up having to go into the bar and staff in there got one. We were given 8 glasses for 9 drinks and asked for one more but was never given so 2 people shared a glass. They completely forgot one of the children’s order of burger and chips. We arrived at 3.50 and were served food at 5 so we weren’t going to be out within the hour when it took them over the hour the serve us. By the time the missing food arrived it was 5.20, the staff was over at the table starting to clear and clean up as they clearly wanted the table back so we end up letting the child who ordered the burger just take it in his hand to eat it in the car and he didn’t eat the chips. The chicken curry came out with a thick skin on it after been reheated. The bowl of rice was handed to a child with a big chunk gone out of it. The chicken burger came plain with no sauce and none given at the table either. The bbq burger and fully loaded burger were bland and tasteless. The ribs came with no pineapple salsa and purple slaw it came with rocket lettuce. The nachos was not fine ground mince it was reheated hard blocks of mince and it had no sauce what so ever not even the sour cream as described on the menu. Everything was reheated cheap food and it was disgusting. The service was terrible staff was so rude and clearly in a bad mood he was unhelpful and not in any way polite. It was the worst service and food...

We booked table for 4 children and 10 adults for a birthday party. Service was terrible didn’t even ask us did we want a drink we had to go next door to get drink we waited for an hour for our food when it did eventually arrive my steak was cold it looked like it had been sitting all day one other steak was raw not on inside on outside disgusting another steak cold a cod battered cod was cooked too much it was hard uneatable chips all cold sent steaks back after about half hour when everyone was finished and veg cold they came back with steaks which no one wanted at that stage no apologies sent a waitress to deal with us we just asked for bill they removed steaks and round of drinks from bill. Beautiful pub and restaurant but poor staff and really bad food...

We stopped here for dinner and a drink just on the good exterior appearance. It was a Tuesday evening and it was very quiet. The menu has a great selection and is reasonably priced. The other half got a chicken supreme, which we were told would take 25 mins as it was cooked on the bone. A good sized meal came out on a bed of beautiful creamed mash. I must say, this was the only plate cleared by herself on our short 3 day break I had a ribs and spicy wings board with champ which were also beautiful and very good sized portion. 2 X main courses a pint of lager and 7 up were £40 with two full and very satisfied customers. The place needs a bit of tidying and brightening up inside a do something about the damp musky odour on...
