Step aside, every other BBQ joint — VR Fire & Smokehouse is in a league of its own. From the moment we walked in, the staff were on it — attentive, friendly, and clearly running the place like a well-oiled (and beautifully smoked) machine.

Now, let’s talk portions: massive doesn’t even begin to cover it. The ribs? Absolute prehistoric beasts. One plate could probably feed all of Newry and still have leftovers. I genuinely considered starting a food drive with what was left.

And the meat? So soft, it practically fell apart at the sight of a fork. My pillow is offended — it’s never been that tender. Every bite melted like butter with a smoky hug. Honestly, if meat had a luxury spa treatment, this is what it would taste like.

Went here on Friday evening for dinner for 2. Service was top class. Very friendly staff. The menu was extensive and very inviting. You can tell the owner is very passionate about what he serves. They also do brilliant thin crust pizza and had samples on the counter for all to taste. We had the pork belly burnt ends to start with duck wings. Michelin star taste. We then had the burgers. I had a chilli dog and my mum and partner had wings and fries, my mum and partner were sick for days after and though at the time it did taste ok which gains it an extra star. There was little to no atmosphere... No music just a TV playing noises of someone cooking. Even though there was only two tables in at the time both tables had to go up the the waiter on his phone to ask for the bill after waiting a while.
