Dreadful food. Had to book and initially told there was only 1 slot available, this being at 6pm-a tad early so we declined, amazingly like a Dr's receptionist then told us in the same breath there was also a space at 8.30 pm so we booked it in. Rather a limited menu but prices weren't bad. Before our food arrived the table in front were complaining about their food, only having a thimble full of tartar sauce with their starter, followed by sending back their American style burger, saying it was the worst tasting cheese in the world and the burger was worse than 1 from a burger van. Ours arrived. Whitebait starter delicious. Main of lasagne looking pale and pasty, was only about 1cm deep in the oval dish, mushy and completely tasteless, my wife's aubergine and sweet potato bake fared no better, tasting solely of value brand tinned tomatoes. Owing to hunger, it was consumed, when asked by the lovely waitress how our food was we fessed up and relayed our views. Very apologetically we were told we would only be charged half the advertised price-fair play, but when it came to paying, we were informed this could not be done and only £5 was deducted. Opposite, another couple were looking highly dismayed at their offerings, with husband and wife swapping meals with each other to try and make the best of a bad night out. Won't be back...

Mediocre. We booked for a table of 10 after reading good reviews but left disappointed. Long waiting time for the food and when it eventually arrived it wasn't really worth the wait. My daughter had chicken nuggets which looked like birdseye frozen chicken dippers. The chips were anaemic. My other daughter had pasta Bolognese which was bland and tasteless. I had scampi which was ok. My husband had a double cheeseburger which again was bland looking and not very tasty. I didn't find the staff very welcoming or friendly which was a shame considering we were a large group spending a lot of money. Nobody came to check the meals were ok despite them not being particularly busy. Wouldn't go back again and unfortunately wouldn't recommend based...

When we visited this place a couple of years ago it was great (see old review below).

We tried to visit this place twice whilst in holiday this time and I have to give it 1 star now.

We went in on Tuesday and ALL of the tables were reserved for a quiz from 8pm, we were told that there was not tables, even though the place was nearly empty!

We tried again on Thursday just to be told that they didn't have a chef working on this day. I don't think I'll bother again!

Previous review Nice old fashioned pub. The service was excellent and accommodating with our change requests to the food.

The food was good and decent value. The only reason it didn't get a 5 star from me is because they don't...

Lovely atmosphere and very attentive and helpful staff but very disappointing food. Starter was Whitebait that was served with a teaspoon of tartar sauce, I kid you not, see pic. This was followed by the worse burger I have ever been served. No relish, no salad and charged £1 for some plastic cheese. The burger tasted like it was from a burger van spat out my first and only mouthful. Floured bun was rock solid. Chips were delicious!

Lovely local pub, very friendly atmosphere. Very dog friendly. Although we did not eat here, the meals we saw being served all looked very good. A good selection of drinks are available. Staff were friendly. Reason for not allocating 5 stars on this review, is the comfort of the seats. They are either hard wood with no cushions or very upright settee style seating with hardly any padding at all. So not comfortable for lengthy stays.

On our arrival to Ilfracombe we stumbled across this great pub before checking in yo our holiday home. Staff were so welcoming & friendly and made our Dog feel like a King! Fresh water & treats offered instantly. The lovely fires were roaring away. Food was lovely and great value for money, The ladies spent time chatting with us sharing the history of the paranormal activity. Such a lovely pub with a great atmosphere.
