Decent food but nothing to write home about, service dodgy to say the least beginning with online booking system where my booking was not accepted or acknowledged although they plainly knew about it when we got there. The place was only half full so I would have imagined they would have been grateful for the table of 4 but on the contrary. We were seated and ignored for about 20 minutes, no menu's or drinks offered. There seemed to be plenty of staff milling around and they got to us eventually. Food was just about above average and decent portion sizes. Having ordered the most expensive thing off the menu, tandoori king prawns, they arrived and were presented tossed on a plate with a small heap of shredded lettuce, not really looking like good value for the sixteen quid price tag. Presentation was truly useless, when I asked for some lemon to squeeze onto the prawns I was eventually given 2 wafer thin dried up lemon slices that were plainly meant for drinks, not good for an Indian restaurant where you would expect fresh lemon to be in abundance. We all ate our food which was okay but not exactly cheap, £120 for 4 of us with a couple of drinks. Only 2 starters and no puds, I would have expected more for the money frankly. Hopefully they were just having an off night as the one thing that took us there was a decent set of reviews. Suggest they up their game on the service and presentation front which marred the evening somewhat...
Read moreMy partner and I stay near Ilfracombe a few times a year and we can’t believe we’ve never tried this restaurant, particularly because of our love for Indian food. The service was fantastic from all of the staff, but Ahmed in particular was really personable and helpful. The food was amazing, from the poppadoms to the prawn puri and onion Bhaji starters. We had a curry each - lamb tikka passanda and lamb tikka madras, a cheese and garlic naan and a peshwari naan, keema rice and chips. With the generous portion sizes meaning we couldn’t finish it, Ahmed kindly gave us containers to take it away in. All of the food was hot and super tasty with everything having different flavours (which you don’t find with some Indian restaurants), and with a number of nice cold beers each we were very pleasantly surprised at the bill! Thank you guys for a great meal, we will definitely be returning whether it’s to eat in...
Read moreOverpriced and underwhelming. I don't write reviews often, but when I feel the need , I do. I totally understand that in a seasonal town and especially after covid prices need to be a little higher. However £9.50 for chicken nuggets and chips , £4.50 for flat (out of a large bottle of coke) and £2.75 ➕ £0.75 each popadom for dips that only went between two. I felt ripped off !.Its not even that the surroundings and service was amazing. The staff were a little unhelpful and forgot to bring water for children after asking twice. The food was hot, but the taste wasn't great , and it was nothing to get excited about. I don't consider myself an expert, but it felt re heated rather than freshly cooked. On a plus side the nan breads were nice. I don't like the feeling of being ripped off. If the ambience, service and food had been great I wouldn't have objected so much. However it wasn't and we wont...
