Hatters Cafe — Restaurant in North Hertfordshire

I told two staff members that I have a milk allergy (actually my breastfed 12 week old daughter has a severe cows milk protein allergy).

I asked them to please check the ingredients of everything in my breakfast because milk is often an ingredient in processed meats for example. It's in many things that you wouldn't expect it to be in.

My breakfast was brought out with butter on the toast which they did swiftly take away.

I'm wondering if my bacon, sausage and egg was cooked in butter now. Or if the cheap sausages contain milk because my daughter has had an anaphalactic reaction, she will now be crying non stop for at least 5 days. Allergies are no joke.

I'm so angry I'm going to take this further. Everything else I've eaten has been prepared at home using safe foods that I constantly eat, so it has to be caused by...

It sadly seems our experience is not an isolated case.

When were were seated, the waitress brought us a water bowl for the dog, nice touch.

Sadly, it went all downhill from there on. We were waiting ages to place our order and had to catch the waiter's eye to get his attention.

He struggled to understand our basic order of a tuna and cheese jacket potato and a toastie. He kept repeating "with beans" for the potato.

We were waiting 25 minutes for food, whilst others who arrived and ordered after us received their food first. They said was because our order was complicated! I don't think it could have been any easier.

In the end, we had waited enough and left, so found somewhere nearby that...

Great choice of breakfast with a create your own option as well ! Jacket potatoes also available same as salads, omelettes and burgers of course . Spanish omelette is delicious and well cooked, with a huge portion as cafes making nowadays, served with chips, salad and coleslaw, yummy ! Jacket also good .Food very very good and quickly made. Not as big inside but additional seatings are upstairs in case as it could get quiet busy ! Quick and kind service also make it a place to visit, apart from a girl taking tea milk jug from one table to another is a bit rude! Good for a stop over and a filling up meal and definitely good value compared to...
