I wouldn't normally leave a bad review of Wetherspoons as I've eaten in many around the UK and have always been happy with the food, prices and service.I made a special trip out to the Packhorse Inn, Sleaford on a Thursday night at 5pm with my girlfriend to enjoy their fish and chips (which are usually lovely). However, on this occasion both pieces of fish were undercooked/rubbery/tough and the batter was thick/crunchy/dark brown and oozing with oil - it was disgusting. I managed to find one small chunk of fish which was less rubbery/undercooked than the bulk of it, and so I decided to try it - it was tasteless with a strange texture like no cod I've ever eaten before, and I'm almost certain was not "cod" as advertised on the menu (I'm guessing a cheaper type of fish was used...cost cutting perhaps?!).We had the food sent back, and then 8 minutes later we received two more plates of fish and chips, which to our shock were equally as bad as the first two portions! - again, both pieces of fish with thick, disgusting, crunchy/oily batter, and under cooked/tough/rubbery fish!.We decided that clearly we were not going to ever receive a decent piece of fish, and by this point we had lost our appetite's,so we got a refund and left in disgust. The chips and mushy peas looked fine, and the lady serving us was also pleasant enough, and suggested that it could have been a "bad batch" of fish.Whatever the issue was,I won't be risking another trip to Sleaford Wetherspoons for a portion of the most disgusting battered fish I've ever had. I've eaten Wetherspoon's fish & chips all over the UK, and all have been delicious, with a thin, light, golden batter and perfectly cooked tasty cod inside - not some shrivelled up,sad looking, undercooked rubbery mess that we received in Sleaford - four portions in total - all equally disgusting and not fit to eat!. I hope they can resolve this issue with the fish. It's really put me off going to anymore Wetherspoon's pubs, and I certainly will not be returning to the Sleaford venue to risk wasting anymore of my time to be thoroughly disgusted and fustrated. And if advertised as "cod" then it should be cod, not some cheap ,tasteless, rubbery substitute that clearly doesn't mix well with batter and a deep fat fryer. If you're thinking of going to the Packhorse Inn at Sleaford for fish & chips - you have...
Read moreI used to go quite often for meals at the Packhorse but lately it has failed me and I don't think I will be going again. I gave them 3 chances. First was after a 14oz steak was just not well done and it was taken back and still came back medium to rare. Next visit I chose a steak again on the off chance I had the bad cook the previous time. Exactly the same but the steak was worse with lots of fat. Next time was a breakfast with solid fried egg, solid raw tomato and cold beans. Gave them one more chance Yesterday and I dropped unlucky again with the chef they must have hired from a bad chip shop. Terrible solid egg again, horrible tomato half fried I think cold hash browns. The best part was the toast to be honest. Hard to get that wrong. Oh and I waited 38 minutes from order to food delivery and it wasn't even that busy. So I have learnt my lesson I think. Update for July 2020 Covid 19 Decided to try again. Do not go here, they don't even clean the tables when customers have finished. Table next to us was not cleaned and then 5 mins later another family sat there. Disgusting. People at the bar clogging the place up too. No...

Whatever figured a few weeks later maybe go for a lunch and try a steak , had it before a few years ago here and it was good, full trimmings sautéed mushrooms and steak cooked to order... not anymore, my wife ordered a rare sirloin steak and I whent for the 14oz rump mid rare , she got well done sirloin and I got a blue rump with again microwave mushrooms.
