Dave's Fish Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in North Norfolk

I really don't understand why this place has an average 4.4 stars rating as that really isn't anything that special or good at all. Not even close. For starters, our chips were rather greasy and soft, and for what they cost me I was expecting way better than that, and wouldn't I needed to get out to go and grab some cash (more on that later) they would have been cold too as the man put them to warm up for me while I went out for a couple of minutes for me to go and grab some cash. Speaking of grabbing some cash I was so disappointed that given the times that we're in to see a business like this, NOT ACCEPTING CARD/PHONE PAYMENTS!! Even the Government recommends to pay by card when possible and I expected to be able to do so since many other Fish&Chips and businesses in general have already organised themselves to do so for months now. And I mean, come on guys, do I really have to handle dirty cash money right before eating my chips? Thank God I had a hand sanitiser with me, but otherwise I think that's pretty bad, especially when it comes to food. Overall not happy, wouldn't recommend it to anyone, will not be going back.

Edit: In response to the owner's reply: If I had £10 in cash ready to pay you wouldn't have bothered to put them on heat, it was only cause I had to leave for a few minutes to get some cash that you did it, otherwise my chips would have been cold too. And for the price I paid (nearly £7 for 2 portions of Chips and Battered Sausages with a portion of Mayonnaise) it is pretty bad and a poor service. No1 in Cromer gives you twice the portion for half the price and they're way way better too, proper consistency both...

Go to Dave's Fish and chip ship if you want to taste what are probably, the best fish and chips, in the UK!!! Why? Perfect non gooey batter, thick chunky cod with the skin on it and the most delicious tasting chips. All served whilst observing the Covid 19 restrictions. A true gem of the Norfolk coastline. UPDATE AUGUST 2020 : Once again my family and I were treated to georgous tasting fish and chips. Clearly Sandra, Jordan and Will, work with the best quality fish available. Cod is a large fish when it's whole and they must fillet the fish to a high standard in order to have the different cuts available from the fryer. Substandard fish and chip shops buy in cod shaped factory produced pieces to make life easier, so it's nice to know that traditional fish frying skills are alive and well in Sheringham. Updated review another year on , sat in and had 4 adult meal deals and 1 child meal deal at £55 , the food and service was excellent , the restaurant was nearly at capacity and we turned up just before closing time with a big double pram , but were speedily seated and served , top quality 👍👍

Updated review , ate in today and had Daves Special for £10.30 , consisting of Haddock , Chips , Beans , Bread & Butter , Coffee . The chips looked a little undercooked and the fish seemed to be wet under the batter , tasted ok , but didnt seem upto the usual high standard when i have takeaway . The service was good and speedy .
