Davies Fish Shop — Restaurant in North Norfolk

Bought three dressed crabs recently, two for friends one for us. I was offered a range of crab from £4 up to £7 this being the largest available from this shop, I went for the largest @ £7. Imagine my surprise when once unwrapped the crab I bought was incredibly small, far far smaller than I had been expecting. Sorry, but I have to say it, I felt totally ripped off and very disappointed especially as I had bought crab from here before . My two friends were polite and said there’s was delicious snd lovely . I’m not disputing that, mine was just the same as the crab meat was moist, tender and soo delicious. I did take a photo of mine with a fork in the image to add scale, so the taste is not in question .

I don’t think I will be using them again as I detest being ripped off when I’m only too happy to normally pay the going rate. You may think differently, I’m sure the owners will totally disagree with this review . Feel totally let down by this shop. Saw there Facebook post on 10th June for seafood platters they had prepared for a customer. In the comments someone asked how much they were. They replied with 'these particular ones were £38 because they contained a whole lobster & a large crab' (which they have since amended to priced per order) I went to Cromer on a short break away and when we got there I rang and said I wanted a seafood platter the same as the pic on Facebook and agreed the price of £38. Couldn't believe itwit I went to collect and there was no lobster in it. When I challenged them they said it was an extra cost of £9 They disregarded there Facebook comment and said that was a special price for someone. After walking back to where we were staying with no seafood platter (1/2 walk) they messaged and said if I meet the owner at 4.15 I could have it for £38 with the lobster. My reply was...

I've never been to Cromer before. But as a Chef I always try to to source local products. I bought an undressed male crab, really nice with a bed of fresh rocket and homemade mayonnaise. But what got my attention was their smoked mackerel. Proper smoked fish very tasty a little bit oily as it should be, but that smokiness was awesome was proper smoked no flavourings. Will be back as soon as possible.
