Large posters and A Boards outside compelling you in to try the delicious food and carvery on the Mon-Sat menu. Were very welcomly met and asked which side of the seating areas we'd like to be sat at. Chose the restaurant rather than the bar side and offered menus if we weren't sure of what we would like to eat. Having tried and enjoyed the carvery before we chose that option again. We're asked if we'd like a drink but decided on a pot of tea for two to be served with our meal. Shown into the restaurant side of the pub and told we could sit at any vacant table and ten advised we could go to the hot servery any time we were ready. A choice of ham, pork, beef and turkey (a slice of each if we chose). Yorkshire pudding. Roast and creamed potatoes, roast parsnip chips, swede, buttered carrots, cabbage, peas. Stuffing, gravy, sauces. Even a tiny bit of everything and your plate was heaving. Plates were served warm although not hot and on platters to save burnt fingers walking back to table. Melt in your mouth meats. No room for pudding although they looked very appetising. Only reason this was given four stars and not five was because they forgot to serve tea with our meal and had to be reminded. Food could have been a tad warmer.

Read moreWe visited just as lunch service was starting so there were very few customers, however before we left it was starting to get busy.
It is fully accessible for those with mobility issues and in wheelchairs without assistance.
We had the carvery at £9.85 each, which was real value for money. I had a slice of the Gammon (a little salty for my taste) but cut like butter, the Beef cooked medium (I prefer med/rare) was juicy and tender and the Turkey, like the Gammon, cut like butter and was succulent. The veg was plentiful well cooked, the butted carrots a triumph, the real gravy morish, stuffing balls superb and horseradish sauce good enough to clear your nose.
Although I have indicated my meat preference, it should not detract from the good food, plesent surrounding and keen prices. The staff and chef were helpful, courteous and friendly.
The décor is plesently neutral and the cleaning spotless. The view on the cliff side is beautiful.
Overall we were very impressed and would recommend anyone to eat here. We would also like to big up the kitchen and it's staff for the...
Read moreI had friends visiting for the weekend and was keen to show off what the north east has to offer. We we weary after a weekend of horrible service at bars and restaurants in the city. Places that used to be great were really disappointing, with poor service, unfriendly staff, and substandard food. Our stop at the Gibraltar Rock was for Sunday roast and our last stop before my friends departed to give them a chance to explore the coast.
We needn't have worried - it was an excellent experience. All of the staff were really welcoming and friendly and contributed to a great afternoon. We had the carvery, which was superb - everything served was fresh, hot and delicious. This was like what was great about hospitality before Covid - I'm so glad some places keep their standards so high.
We got really looking by getting a sea view table without a reservation, a nice extra touch.
Thank you to all the team who were working so hard to look...
