Sadly, we were disappointed, very disappointed! We were disappointed that our booking for a table hadnāt been noticed - there was plenty of room - but this left us feeling that our custom and attendance didnāt matter and wasnāt valuable to the pub. We were disappointed that the cutlery was grotty and stained. It didnāt look as if it had been washed! Many sauce bottles were half empty. We were disappointed in the menu as the choices were sparse: steaks? There were none! My friend and I both ordered chicken and bacon salad which was supposed to come with quinoa and brown rice, topped with crispy fried onion and dressed with a salad dressing. There was no brown rice or quinoa, nor fried onion topping, nor salad dressing! When my friend asked about their absence she was told that the menu had changed! Rubbish! They just didnāt care! That was our lasting impression. The menu choices definitely didnāt match its sister pub menus, namely The Sump (Burton) and Catchems (Swadlincote). There was very little chicken and bacon on our plates and very little cucumber, which for Ā£11.79 was daylight robbery. Any bunny would have been happy as there was plenty of lettuce! We used our 30% off voucher which basically gave us a free soft drink. We then ordered sticky toffee pudding with custard. There was nothing sticky-ish or toffee-ish about it and the amount of custard in our little jugs was mean. It tasted like any dry old piece of cake. So, as you can tell, the White Hart at Ashby has a long way to go to improve and definitely needs to āpull its socks upā. The pub is obviously a drinkersā pub as the drinkers soon arrived in time for the quiz. Sadly, we wonāt be returning nor recommending this venue. Thereās plenty of worthy competition to be enjoyed in Ashby! I wonder if anyone will care to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe thought we would try this pub for the first time after getting a Mail Drop with a money off mains offer. We arrived at the pub which was lovely inside, both decor and feel. We had looked at the menu in advance so ordered straight away to be told the menu on the website wasnāt the current menu, so we had to rethink. We were then told there were no fries. So we ordered something else. After about 15mins someone came over to tell us there was no halloumi (side) and asked if we wanted something else or a refund. When the food arrived, the donner kebab I had ordered was awful! There was no tomato, red pepper and cucumber or sour cream style sauce as per the menu and there were about 6 tiny pieces of meat. I went to the bar to ask for the bits of my dish which were missing, to which I was asked if I wanted a side salad, I said no, I just wanted what I had ordered. I was then brought a side salad. Definitely wonāt be back for food as this was really disappointing! Sent feedback about misspelling to Marstons and got rubbish...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirstly, this pub has a bear under the floor and that's worth a visit alone. Seriously though, this is a great pub. I ain't from Ashby but whenever I've been visiting friends in the area I always like to pop in. Why? Well let me tell you my friends. Firstly the staff have always been great to us but also the place has character. The front of the pub retains that "Ye Olde" style (careful if your over 6 foot) and the further you go towards the back of the pub the more modern it seems to get till you get to the new extension at the back with it's retractable roof to reveal a great little see garden for the summer - complete with TV for those all important games.
Great set up. Definitely...
