Ruby's Dundonald — Restaurant in Northern Ireland

Disappointing experience which has left our entire party running to the bathroom all morning! Thursday 13th Feb 2025 Party of almost 20 booked for a 30th birthday meal. We arrived for 6pm, no menus on the table and took around 40 minutes to get menus brought and finally drinks to arrive. After an hour of being in the building we finally ordered our meals. There was a table of the same size behind us who had arrived just shortly after we did. Our starters were cleared and we thought out main course would be out soon after. We waited until half 8 until main courses hit the table! 2 and a half hours!! My son had ordered an adult meal and chose to have his eith the adults. He didn't have a started and the poor child was absolutely starving!! To the point he was almost in tears. The table who came in behind us got served their main courses before we did! Nobody enjoyed their meal when it finally came and the atmosphere at our table was ruined. Our waiter was nice and I don't believe this was his fault. Whoever took the two large bookings should have checked with the kitchen to see if both could be accommodated. Which clearly they couldn't do. To wait 2 and a half hours on our meals and watch a table who arrived after us get theirs before we did was unbelievable. Some of us had ordered desserts and in the end told them to forget about them! My youngest was really looking forward to getting a dessert but by the time we had finished eating our dinner close to 9pm the table was cleared and we all just wanted to leave!! Rubys well and truly ruined my friends birthday meal! They did take our drinks off the bill by way of an apology but it just wasn't enough when the rest of the bill was close to £300. To top it off, everyone who had Chicken/beef/steak/prawns has either been up all night with stomach cramps running to the loo or woke up this morning vomiting and running to the loo 🤢! We are so disappointed! We would frequently go to Rubys dundonald and have always raved about it but this was awful. With only 2 smaller tables in the restaurant I can't even say it was busy! They have unfortunately lost a lot of customers after...

Had my baby shower here today which I booked around a month in advance to be told 2 days ago that my booking wasn’t in the book and they had double booked me. I was offered half of the downstairs bar which wasn’t good enough to still have to pay the same price for it and sit in a public bar. They originally told me I couldn’t get into the bar until 12pm to set up for the day so my baby shower was starting at 4pm. They told me I could have the baby shower there if I was out before 6:30pm but origanlly I was told we could have as long as we wanted. so I agreed as it was too short notice to book somewhere else as it was 2 days before. I had to change my times and rearrange everything for the day. When we came to set up for the day all I could hear was staff and owner complaining that we moved a couple of tables and chairs as they ‘wouldn’t have time to fix it before the next party’ even though I was told I could move the tables and chairs if I needed to and know other people who have had baby showers there and have rearranged the room. My whole baby shower ended up being rushed as we had to pack up at 6 o’clock which took us to after 6:30. I didn’t get many of my games done or anything I had planned and was stressed about time the whole day. The Buffett food was nice but the bar staff were walking past the Buffett I paid for and were sticking there hands in it and shoving food in there mouths infront of everyone and when you ordered a drink at the bar they were eating from the buffet and had there mouths full of food which I thought was disgusting and unprofessional. We were offered a £40 discount but for me it didn’t excuse anything that happened. Place is run very poorly obviously and I wouldn’t book again or recommend...

Amazing food but very run down.

Went with family for Sunday dinner and the food was amazing as it always is, however when we first got to the restaurant we where greeted by a young girl and a kid (maybe 8/9/10 years old). The kid insisted on giving us our menus, she brought us to our table and dropped the menus on the floor (obviously by accident) but was just very off putting that we where being waited on by a child rather than our waitress. When we were brought to the table our seat was completely mangled as you’ll see in the picture below so my partner and I where almost sitting on-top of each other so neither of us had to sit on the damaged part. While we where ordering our food the kid was like lying her chest/belly on our table holding her head up just starring at us while we ordered and it was just so awkward and weird….got our starters brought out, unfortunately 1 was missing but once we told the waitress it was brought out quickly after. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time I’ve had something to complain about when it comes to the service in Rubys and I don’t like leaving bad reviews for places however, It’s just a real shame because the food here is so so good.
