Over priced and underwealming!
First I would like to commend the staff, I do not have a problem with the service 10 out of 10 for our server. I get you're young and doing as your told, I was you. Also not blaming the chefs. You obviously don't have creative freedom. I have been you too!
May as well call this "trying to be blue Chicago 's, unsuccessfully and that's not really that great, is it? "
we don't eat out much, because I can cook, but hubby wanted to take the family out. So we went. We were seated promptly and with a smile, and our drinks orders were taken. Here begins the dissapointment! I ordered a lime, frozen cocktail for £6, I recieved a jar of lime slush puppy with a whisper of gin.
The food was what you would expect, at the likes of brewers fayre! It would seem that the point of their food is to be fast, not fresh or flavourful. (If you buy in your bbq sauce, change supplier, if its made in house, far too much sour and barely any smoke!)
Don't call it a smoke House then serve oven cooked, micro heated food. That's all I'm saying.
My children were unimpressed with thier anemic ribs, I really could have done with a better flavour range on the cowgirl. Just a lot of vinegary pork. Huby really prefers his brisket pulled. ( it helps with sauce distribution and helps when your brisket is dry from over cooking)
Desserts were delicious! Well done!
Then here's the kicker, the bill was at least £25 over what they should be charging. We did leave a tip, because again, server was great! If I were the owner I would;
thank the powers that be for my staff! Find a passion for food not money Find a sense of originality
Next time I think we'll just go...
Read moreLast night I had my first and last meal at Sugar Rays. My friends had talked highly of the restaurant so I was looking forward to a meal here. After being taken to our seats the course of events (pun intended) were about to take a substandard change. I was abashed that I was spending £6.85 on the equivalent to a pint, nonetheless I was hopeful that my meal was going to be cooked in a Southern style that Sugar Rays advertise. To quote the website, they state they cook their food with a "slow and low" approach. However, this was far from reality. Unfortunately, my expectations were not close to being met. The burger was so cold I thought I could hear it whisper "Take me back to pastures green", not to mention the chips were lukewarm. As previously mentioned, they cook their food "slow and low". The food was served in ten minutes, now in my humble opinion that seems very fast. I ate approximately 75% of the meal which was cumbersome, furthermore, I felt that I was in a dark quagmire with no escape. Nevertheless, remaining resilient and desperate for my palate to taste something flavorsome, I ordered dessert. To my dismay but also my satisfaction, the chocolate fudge cake was hotter than my burger. Producing meals of this standard is repugnant and led to my health being affected the next day. To conclude this review, the customer service was mediocre, the restaurant is vastly overrated and grossly overpriced considering the quality of what you...
Read moreA cozy nostalgic diner with a modern twist. Classic American food delivered with passion and style.
You walk into the restaurant and are greeted with two arcade machines, one for classic Street Fighter and another for Pac Man (useful for the longer waits.).
Thankfully it was quiet when I arrived.
The walls are dressed with classic American posters from the 80's and neon lighting is utilised tastefully throughout.
The menu is extremely varied. Classic American menu with crowd pleasers included (Pizza, Burgers, Nacho's etc.) and even a separate children's menu. Honestly, the sheer amount of choice that one has when browsing is staggering. The only gripe I would have with the menu is that it can be initially daunting, and the stylistic approach can perhaps alienate older customers who aren't as 'hip', but is completely subjective.
The variety of both vegetarian and vegan food is pleasing too. The only area to improve is perhaps more salads. I personally would love to see a veggie twist on a Cesar's salad. Very strong offerings.
I was lucky enough to experience their Veggie Queen Pizza which was divine. Sourdough base, fresh mushrooms, pesto, sun-dried tomatoes... absolutely delicious.
Their sides are no slouch either, generous portions abound and delicious.
I'll be bringing more friends to experience this hidden gem of the ice bowl.
Very, highly...
