We love Thai food and were craving it last week. While exploring Derry, we came across this restaurant, which looked reasonably priced, so we decided to give it a try. Since we hadn’t booked, we waited about 20 minutes for a table, which was fine as we were able to relax at the bar.
The atmosphere was lively, though it seemed to be filled mostly with tourists (which didn’t bother us, as we were visitors ourselves). Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended, as the food was a real disappointment.
I ordered the Massaman curry, which is normally one of my favourites. What I was served, however, was more like a bowl of curry sauce filled mostly with potatoes and only three small pieces of beef. The flavour was completely off - not just a variation, but far from the Massaman taste I know and love. I couldn’t even finish it.
My wife ordered the chicken Pad Thai, and when it arrived, it was watery and overwhelmingly lemony. It genuinely tasted like lemon washing-up liquid. After just two bites, she couldn’t eat any more.
Overall, apart from the nice atmosphere and polite service from the Thai staff, the food was dreadful. Sadly, we left disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. It’s a real shame, as we had been looking forward to Thai food, but instead it ruined our evening.
It seems that the locals love this place but it's a shame that they have not experienced what REAL Thai food tastes like because...
Read moreReally frustrating take away service, complete opposite to the restaurant experience. Numerous times I've ordered for pick up and items are missing, with the promise of delivery to make up for the mistake, but then either forgotten about or the issue is never resolved. On one instance, they forgot items, they where to send it in a delivery, we waited an hour, rang back, to see where it was, said they forgot and the kitchen was closed and that they would speak to the manager and call us back the next day, no contact. So, obviously through frustration, I left it for a few months. Decided to try again yesterday for pick up, double checked the bag and received correct items, red Thai, nice, papaya salad, nice, then beef massaman was severely over salted, under cooked potatoes, and it had more star anise bits than anything else, literally every fork had a whole piece or peanut sized pieces. Rang to resolve the issue, polite young lady on the phone apologised, but due to previous experiences of nothing being done about it on their end, I drove back over again to get my money back for massaman only. I Love supporting local restaurants, but this is making it tough to do, a simple taste of food/check of items, and a more professional response to resolve issues with customers would be appreciated, because its causes a'lot of wasted time,...
Read moreTerrible experience here on Saturday. Had an entire glass of red wine thrown all over my back, my trousers, and my wool coat (which cost me €300). It also went all over my friend beside me. They took my coat away to try get rid of the stains and apologised profusely, but did not once apologise to her or offer to assist with her jacket. After a haphazard attempt to fix my jacket it was handed back to me with the entire inside of it soaking wet with wine and a foul stale vinegary smell, red wine blotches still remaining on it. After this mishap, we then waited over 80 minutes for our food, we asked where our food was many times as we were under time constraints to be told it’s being prepared but would take another 20 minutes. We told them we could not wait any longer as we had an event to attend. Finally our food came out, people were given the wrong dishes. Food was average at best. Despite this terrible experience, not a single token of apology was offered on the bill, at very least the wine should have been taken off the bill. We now have two expensive dry cleaning bills (that the restaurant should be paying!) This is not how customer issues...
