Several people have recommended Effy worth a visit.
A couple of days ago I paid a visit, my first visit.
My first impression stuffy, as can be seen from the steamed up windows. They need better ventilation, especially during coronavirus pandemic.
Awful lighting, a dull pink glow, which makes feel as though eyes are not functioning correctly.
Coffee on sale on the shelves Manhattan, a roastery in Rotterdam. Though not what I was served. Difficult to read what was written on the bags due to poor lighting.
Also on the shelves limited selection of coffee paraphernalia.
A few cakes on display. Whether food served or not, I do not know and did not ask.
I ordered a cappuccino. Bailies, a roastery in Ireland that I was familiar with. Short lived Flat Whites served Bailies as a guest coffee.
The only coffee shop I have seen an Origami in use other than in Athens, though not on sale. Using Kalita wave filter papers.
Knowledgeable and helpful barista.
Too busy to try, I left a few coffee beans of the coffee I had with me.
On leaving a couple of people outside undecided. I advised worth a visit, excellent coffee.
We now have four excellent coffee shops in Nottingham
Effy The Specialty Coffee Shop Kigali Cartwheel Coffee
All within a few minutes walk of each other, a few minutes walk from Nottingham Station.
From Kigali worth a detour to Sneinton Market to Luisa’s bean-to-bar craft chocolate and Neon Raptor craft beer brewery.
Kigali is located in Hockley, many interesting indie businesses. If looking to eat try Paste (Thai restaurant) or Ugly...
Read moreHave never posted a negative Google review before, but after the service we received here today, I felt it hugely necessary to mention it for future patrons, to avoid them experiencing what we did.
I have had coffee from here so many times before, and it is so good that we often make a special trip to come here whenever we visit Nottingham. Unfortunately today was not the same. This morning I waited around 20-25 mins for a take-out flat white and tried to order a pastry. This wait time was to serve three other people in front of us.
After ordering, my husband was told to step aside so that the staff member could serve the remaining customer behind him. It’s not what he said but the tone - It was rude, given there had been no acknowledgment of our long wait. There were three baristas working and despite this, It purposefully felt like they took longer than usual to make one coffee, and once I receive it, the comment of “you’re welcome” before I even had chance to acknowledge the coffee being made - and say thank you - felt very passive aggressive.
After leaving post-silly-comment, I then tried it and had to throw it away. It tasted awful and not at all the usual. Not sure what was going on, but clearly the person serving me today did not wake up on the right side of the bed. The unfriendly experience today will gladly push me to buy my coffee elsewhere...
Read moreI’ve been coming to effy for years, and I honestly can’t say enough good things about the place. Every single person there makes me feel so welcome and special (even when I feel sure I’m being annoying). They’re always kind, patient, and lovely. Everything that comes out of the bakery is hands down the best around - every flavour combination feels so thoughtful, and the attention to detail is unreal. You can tell how much care goes into everything they make. The coffee menu is so well sourced and ever-changing - genuinely something for everyone ranging from super out-there mental co-ferments, something more “normal”, and everything in between.
Even when it’s absolutely packed, they handle it all like total pros - it’s quite impressive. They’re calm, friendly, and so professional. It’s such a special place run by amazing people. Nottingham is so lucky...
