“Brilliant, traditional English pub” Pending review 5 of 5 stars
I have been here several times including for Sunday Roast lunch (totally brilliant) and the live music evening on a Thursday. The roast is unbelievable. Succulent, pink, rare beef, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, honey glazed carrots, peas, red cabbage and gravy. What a feast and at such a good price too. Lovely, varied menu, all beautifully prepared. Excellent real ales, friendly and helpful staff, full table service.. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Relaxing atmosphere and the live music was a blast. Everyone got up to dance. Am looking forward to "Tom's steak and blues night" one Wednesday. BUT, I have heard a rumour that everything is changing - no more Sunday roast, no more Steak and Blues, no more live music, mostly a fish and chip menu. Surely that can't be right? It will be the death of one of the few, really good traditional pubs left in Nottingham .

Read moreI was having some food here and I noticed an older couple who had been quietly had a couple of coffees. When they went to leave it looked like they were charged and were told to press a button on the card machine. I observed from the commotion that they had been charged (unwillingly) a 5 pound tip on top of a 7 pound bill for coffee. They tried to reason with the manager and I was appalled by his treatment of them. He was very derogatory and told them to go to their bank to get a refund! There was no offer of a refund, not even a gift card nor an apology. It was clear that the establishment was taking advance of their older customers who are maybe not so familiar with technology. After witnessing this treatment of them I felt compelled to write a review in the hope that other patrons will be more cautious and not be taken...
Read moreWe stopped in here as a 6 at the weekend, half way through a stag bar crawl. The one thing the lads noticed up on arrival was how miserable looking the ladies were at the bar. Before we had hardly said a word to anyone we really didn't feel welcomed and almost as though we were inconveniencing them. The price I was charged for my pint of Deya was also £7.40. when I sat down the price on the wall was £7.00. in Norwich this is a beer that you can find on draft for £6.40 and must have been the most expensive 4% pint of Ale I have ever paid out for. What happened to Nottingham being student friendly? We also didn't like the fact that they seem very proud to support the controversial cashless movement. Needless to say we were very pleased to be moving on and a couple of my lads were soo keen to do soo that they didn't even finish...
