Old Market Square, officially established in the 11th century, is the historic and cultural centerpiece of Nottingham. As one of the largest public spaces in the UK, it has served as a marketplace, gathering place, and civic heart for nearly a thousand years. The square is beautifully designed, with modern fountains, open seating areas, and a great view of the iconic Nottingham Council House. It's a lively space surrounded by shops, cafés, and restaurants, making it ideal for both tourists and locals. Throughout the year, it hosts seasonal events such as the Christmas Market, Beach in the City, and cultural festivals that bring energy and color to the city. Easily accessible by foot or public transport, it’s also a great meeting point or starting place to explore Nottingham. The mix of history, architecture, and activity makes it a must-visit spot in the city. A wonderful place to relax, or learn about Nottingham's rich heritage.

I enjoyed my time strolling around. Just looking ta people, the architecture and just the view. Great one for sure. The Old Market Square is an open, pedestrianised city square in Nottingham, England. It is the largest such surviving square in the United Kingdom, forming the heart of the city. Located in the heart of Nottingham City Centre. The Eastern end of the square is dominated by the Council House, which serves as Nottingham's town hall. The nature of the square means it is often used for large local events, fairs, concerts and exhibitions. The square has long been at the centre of Nottingham life. In the early days before the City of Nottingham was formed, the area was the centre-point between the Norman town of Nottingham, situated around the Castle Rock, and the old Anglo-Saxon town which was based around the current Lace Market at St. Mary's Church, also called Snothryngham, Snottingaham or Snottingham.

Old Market Square in Nottingham is a vibrant public space in the heart of the city. It is the largest public square in the UK, with an area of around 25,000 square metres. The square has been part of Nottingham’s history for centuries, and has been the site of many different events throughout its lifetime. The square is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, with a variety of shops, restaurants, and other attractions to explore.

The square was originally a market place, and you can still find traditional stalls selling local produce, as well as a few new shops and cafes. The area has recently been redeveloped, and now features a large water feature in the centre, with cobbled paths and grassed areas. There is a wide variety of seating areas, with benches and tables dotted around the square. The square is also a popular spot to relax and watch the world go by, with plenty of space to walk around.

The square is home to some iconic landmarks, including the impressive Council House, which dates back to the 19th century. The building is a Grade II listed building, and is surrounded by a number of other historic buildings. The square is also the home of the Nottingham Wheel, a giant...

This vast open space is surrounded by shops and dominated by the impressive dome of the Council House (the former City Hall). Its clock chimes ring out across the city centre on the hour. The square is within easy walking distance of the castle area and the trams stop right next to it. I was here for the Nottingham Winter Wonderland, which runs until New Year's Eve. Spent a few hours here and it was great fun! There were market stalls selling a wide range of goods including crafts, winter fashion accessories, crockery, jewellery, Christmas decorations, cheeses and confectionery. Plenty of festive food and drink stands, an ice skating rink, snow machine, bar, a big wheel, carousel and other fairground rides, seasonal music and festive entertainment. You could toast your own marshmallows over a fire pit, and the mulled wine was a lovely winter warmer on a very cold day! There's enough to keep kids amused for hours. Great festive atmosphere. There are plenty of cafes nearby and some free public toilets in an alley which leads off from the square next to Clarks Shoes. Extremely busy when I was there but this square is worth a look even when there is no event...
