First time visiting, hopefully not the last.

Now, let me start by saying, I know my fish and chips, I've travelled the length and bredth of the UK in the hunt for a good fish supper, having tried places like murgatroyds (imho the best fish and chips) and places like the rock down in Devon and Torquay, the Cods Scallops is a more local affair.

Me and my wife visited the other day for some afternoon grub, to be greeted by a lovely looking restaurant with really nice sea related decor and such, we were excited by what was on offer. I personally had the Cod Kebab, which was an original and tasty dish, my wife had the fish pie.

Now let me say, the fish, was top tier, a nicely sized fillet that was flaky and meaty, which is always a good thing when it comes to fish, I didn't realise that it wasn't a battered fillet which I assume is down to taste as the kebab is marinaded in a BBQ rub, however I got a side of scraps by asking which elevated the dish.

My wife's pie was brimming with fish, prawns, salmon and haddock and the mash was cheesy and gooey, she said it was really good, however what I will say is, the only thing that lets it down, believe it or not is the chips!

I've always been a fan of chips that are more cooked, softer to bite with a delicate crunch, however the chips here unfortunately were very subpar, they were very pale and hard, which really.didnt make them stand out at all, they were very bland even when doused in salt and vinegar.

The staff on the other hand were very helpful, friendly and attentive and nothing was too much to ask (free scraps!!!!) they also do a loyalty stamp card which is great.

I will probably return again, I only hope feedback is taken onboard about the chips, maybe get a staff tasting to try them and have a play with the ratio so they taste better in future.

If you're in Nottingham or around, still a worthy shout and they have a lovely dine in area and some unique...

The food as ever was beautiful, my kids loved theirs too. A little pricey (£140 for 4 adults, 3 children, mains, desserts and drinks) but it was spot on.

The gripe was that my partner was injured because of a fault with her chair, in which they have a room full of them. She went to adjust her chair to get closer and ended up with the chair trying to fold up and trapped her finger within the mechanism. Accidents happen, obviously but the way it was handled was not what you would expect, especially not in a place held as high in regard as Cod's Scallops. Firstly the accident itself shouldn't of happened, the chairs are a hazard (more on that shortly..) the lady who we presumed was first aid trained was a very polite, very nice but not equipped to deal with a exposed injury, false/long nails, no gloves and so on. Poor girl had to be walked through what to do by my partners mother who is first aid trained. They ended up giving her more plasters to do it themselves in the toilet. The biggest gripe however was that the aforementioned lady told us that 3 people the day(!) before, had suffered similar issues themselves. Rather odd to be told that, but more odd that it just felt like little was done to rectify as to why these accidents happened.

This is not a moan to get some sort of compensation, money off etc. More of a show of annoyance because there was no aftercare, no asking if she's ok, just left in pain.

I don't think we will be returning, which is sad because the...

Following a hospital stay and surgery, I was driven down to pick up a comforting takeaway 20 mins before closing. My family love fish and chips, but I am vegetarian and usually can’t have anything at a chippy… (sometimes I can’t even have the chips) so it isn’t usually my first choice. However, The Cod’s Scallops had plenty of veggie and vegan options which is why we ended up there tonight. The entrance and restaurant was bright, clean, inviting and warm. The young woman at the till was so friendly and welcoming, as were the chefs. I’ve worked in hospitality for years and have never met such lovely, hospitable kitchen staff. I was feeling unsurprisingly unwell in myself, so this meant so much to me tonight. I got home to realise my chips were missing from the bag, however when I phoned back (already after closing) someone was quick to answer the phone and passed me through to the manager. To my surprise, the manager very kindly offered to drive out to my home address to deliver the chips and make up for this mistake. He was with us very quickly, was very polite, apologetic and helpful. These mistakes happen, but as a family we’ve never seen such good customer service when running into similar issues in the past elsewhere. Thank you to the entire team at The Cod’s Scallops for the delicious meal and impeccable service, God knows I needed it! We will...

As you walked in, you almost get transported to a different world, to be precise a very quintessential British seaside cafe/restaurant style with feel good vibes. The interiors and the staff who are all dressed up like the old school waitresses but in a very modern way, make the place lively. The service was great, quick and friendly. Fish and chips was excellent and yummy, light and crispy. I had Haddock and my partner had the Smoked Hake, which was very good as the smokiness worked well with fish. My only advice to them is to serve the tartare sauce on the plate or a little ceramic pot rather than plastic containers as it is not environment friendly. The place was very popular and buzzing plus the take away section had big queues too. Well worth a visit if you are craving for fish and chips with a nice cup of tea.

Have been meaning to visit here for a long time so happy to say it was worth the wait! The restaurant is nice and light and really clean and tidy, quality sea themed decor throughout but not cheesy, I like it. Our waitress welcomed us in and to the table, she was friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The food was excellent, really see why this place won the UK fish and chip shop award, just on another level. I had the lunchtime special and the black pudding fritter, wow, I thought I'd not ordered enough when it arrived but it's plenty of food for sure. They've got a few ales in bottles but would be nice if they had some decent beer, even if it was just a peroni or something. Loved it, highly recommended.
