Forest Recreation Ground is a more than just a big field. It has running tracks and a play ground for the kids and lots of events are held during the year. We like to go at Guy Fawkes night and watch the bonfire and I regularly include the running tracks in my morning run as it is close to Mapperley. By the gates at Mansfield Road you will often find a group of homeless, men and women, most of them alcoholics. Very friendly and harmless bunch who seem to know all the regular runners and some commuters by name and they will meet you with friendly greetings. There is a nice path alongside the field and adjacent to the cemetery where you can sit on a bench and find some shade when it's warm. Unfortunately the area has some issues with drug abuse and sometimes the benches are hijacked by people high on drugs and you need to watch your child while roaming free, because of the occasional needle. Everyone seems to ignore the homeless addict on the bench which results in a tense atmosphere on passing each other. You can turn this around by simply greeting the person on the bench and from then you will be met with friendly greetings anytime you visit. On saturdays the Forest Recreation Ground is host to the park run. You can have a 5km run in your own pace and have a coffee or tea and a chat afterwards. Very nice, I...
Read moreI booked this Travelodge in preference to Wollaston which was undergoing refurbishment, and City which didn’t seem to have much parking. I didn’t realise that this Travelodge doesn’t do a full breakfast, and doesn’t have a bar. BUT we were going to a Thai food festival so full breakfast wasn’t necessary. The packed breakfast was actually okay. Next door was River Cafe which is a really good pub/restaurant so we had a bar next door. Didn’t serve snacks and alcohol until 4am but was okay. It also had 4 very powerful EV chargers in the pub car park which solved my charging problem for my EV car. The hotel is close to the ring Road but very quiet for sleeping and the car park is very secure and has many parking spaces. Overall very good and we will use again when...
Read moreThere are lots of activities available on the Forest Recreational Ground, to find these check out their website or What's On Nottingham carries links for activities here. The facilities are excellent also. There are lots of sports fields, outdoor gym, children's park and a Pirate ship adventure park for toddlers with a cafe right next door to it. There is plenty of seating and walks here with a lovely atmosphere. It's a lovely place to just chill on a balmy summers evening, do a spot of sun bathing or just sit and read out in the open. In my experience people leave you alone or if you approach people then you invariably are met with friendly banter. Great open space free to all in the middle of our lovely city of Nottingham. Great venue for free...
