We chose to try this restaurant because of reading very good reviews. We were very disappointed from start to finish. We had booked a table and on arrival we were shown to a table, we were left sitting there waiting to be served and were not told that we had to go to the bar for drinks ! After 15 minutes we were asked if we wanted poppadoms, which we had with a very poor pickle tray. Still no order taken for our food. We finished the poppadoms and still sat waiting to place our order for another 15 minutes. The mains that we ordered were both described as madras hot, we would normally ask for our curry's to be hot and spicy but didn't this time as it was in the description on the menu. When the food finally arrived it was so disappointing, both dishes were very bland with no taste or heat at all. We are very well travelled and have eaten in many restaurants, Indian, Nepalese, Bangladesh and we usually find the food tasty. This was a very poor experience, slow service, poorly organised without explanation regarding buying drinks with the final poor unflavoured mains being served. My Paneer jelfrezi was nowhere near a jalfrezi, the chicken Gurkahali was very bland. We will not return and will not recommend this...
Read moreI went for Father’s Day (yesterday) with my husband and kids. Food was good. Service was good until there was an incident. I took my 5 year old to the toilets. While I was waiting for him to dry his hands, a large long mirror fell forward and onto my head. It was just lent against the wall between the sink and wall. The mirror didn’t shatter but came out the frame due to the full force it hit my head. My son couldn’t believe what had happened. I couldn’t either. We went back out to tell the staff. There was on first aid given to me, I had to ask for an ice pack which they just gave me ice in a new j-cloth. They asked me several times if I was ok, but nothing else. I found out they just put the mirror back in the same place.
I asked them what they were going to give us as compensation for the incident as it wasn’t my fault.
They turned around and said they couldn’t do anything.
Today I have been suffering from concussion and have been sent home from work due to nearly fainting and suffering nausea. I have been sat in a&e for most part of the day waiting to be seen by a dr due to it being a...
Read moreThis is the third Gurkha pub and restaurant and the food always tastes very similar because they are all run by the same person. So they they all have the same menu and fortunately the food tastes very similar in all three branches. The food is nothing like your normal Anglo Bangladeshi fake imitation Indian food, this is much more like home cooking. I've eaten in all three branches of Gurkha many times and the food is consistently good so I can recommend you try this place. Very nice friendly people great food. The place can do with a bit of a facelift. It's just an old fashioned pub that serves Indian food. Sadly it has no real beer. It used to serve wonderful draught bass but not any more this is so typical of all Indian restaurants. They don't do Real Ale they do fake instead of real beers nitro beers. The sum up...
