Twelve months ago a friend excitedly recommended we take a trip to Oldham to have a German Donner Kabab. Somewhat intrigued I followed suit and tried my first “German”Kabab. What followed was a series of internal questions about why, and how, the everyday donner Kabab can become so hyped.
Does it taste better than the kababs I so fondly remember holding, while staggering home drunken after a heavy night on the town? No. Was it cheep? Not really. Was it fast? Nope. As I rack my brains I come to the conclusion, this is another Nando’s emulation. Hype for hypes sake. The whole thing (and this was confirmed in today’s visit to the Stockport restaurant) strikes me as someone attempting to pick and choose the best elements of KFC, McDonald and Nando’s and try to rebrand what is essentially a minced animal carcass dressed as something it’s not... or mutton dressed as lamb if you like.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully aware there will be a big following for the restaurant, as what appeals to some people is fancy branding, spicy dip pots and fries made to look “dirty” with spices and cheese ontop. But for those who like food, adventure out and you will find a proper Kabab. There are places on the A6 where you can get a proper, freshly cooked Kabab, with flamed grilled chicken, fresh salad in a tasty wrap, and no messing about with dips in little pots, they just squirt it right on.
So in synopsis, over rated, over priced, poor quality ingredients all under the umbrella of fancy branding and the drama of the big spinning kabab wheels. The Donner Kabab belongs where it was, in your hand and all down your top as you stagger home drunk from a night out, only to end up forgotten when you wake up the following day.
Oh and kabab spring rolls... common, don’t be daft. What next...
Read moreI recently dined at Yasha and was absolutely blown away by both the food and the service.
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel exceptionally welcome—warm smiles, attentive greetings, and genuinely enthusiastic recommendations set the tone for the evening. Our server, Emma, was knowledgeable about every dish and patiently guided us through the menu when we couldn’t decide, even suggesting the perfect wine pairing for our meal.
When the starters arrived—crispy calamari with a tangy lemon-garlic aioli and the silky goat-cheese-stuffed peppers—I knew we were in for a treat. Each bite was perfectly seasoned and artfully presented. For mains, the slow-braised lamb shank fell apart under the fork, bathing its bed of creamy polenta in rich, savory jus. The pan-seared seabass, perched atop a vibrant pea-and-mint purée, was equally impressive—flaky, fresh, and bursting with flavor.
What really sets Yasha apart, though, is the attention to detail. Water glasses were refilled without asking; every course came at just the right pace; and small touches—like the surprise palate-cleansing sorbet between courses—kept the meal feeling both luxurious and effortless.
We finished with the honey-blossom panna cotta—light, wobbly, and drizzled with roasted almond brittle—which proved the perfect sweet note on which to end our evening. Before we left, the manager stopped by our table to thank us for coming, which felt like the cherry on top of an already exceptional experience.
If you’re looking for a place where outstanding food meets truly great service, do yourself a favor and book a table at Yasha. You won’t be...

Been wanting to try this place for months, the menu looks fab. Popped in on a Wednesday afternoon with my wife. Waited a while at the door to be greeted and seated! We asked for a seat by the window and waited for the staff member to clean the table. The level of cleanliness was awesome!! Nothing like the local Wetherspoons 😂. Ordered 2 x Original German Doner kebabs with a portion of Flaming Fries. The staff member who seated us and the lady that took the order could not have been more polite. The food was brought to our table around 15/20 minutes later. The fries were the coldest thing I’ve ever been served that were meant to be hot. I returned the fries and the staff member said she said that she’d get me a new portion. Our kebabs were also stone cold, but we were so hungry that we just dived in!! The new red hot fries arrived a couple minutes later. Overall the food was absolutely fab, the taste and flavour was awesome. We ate all of the food we were served. When the waitress cleared our table we asked “are the kebabs a cold dish”? We were told that they are supposed to be hot and we should have returned them straight away. The couple next to us also complained about their food being cold.
I wouldn’t be in a rush to go back, and that’s such a shame because the food tastes so good.
The chefs need to pay more attention to sending out the food when it is hot.
Again, the 3 staff members on that shift were so polite...
