The Oxford Wine Cafe - Jericho — Restaurant in Oxford

Awful experience. I work at OUP across the road and a friend and I decided to go and spend our lunch hour there at 1pm. I'd been looking forward to going for months but just never had anyone to go with. We chose our drinks and lunch and went to sit down. Firstly, the waitress who wrote down our order managed to forget we wanted hot chocolates, not lattes, and then at about 1:30pm we were starting to wonder where our food had gotten to, so my friend went and asked and the waitress said it would be up in a minute, a minute is fine so we waited but it got to 1:45pm and our food still hadn't arrived, meanwhile some other colleagues who had come in after us had sat down and got their food way before us. I then decided I couldn't wait any longer, I had to be back at my desk at 2pm, I'd only ordered the soup, and my friend a salmon and avocado bagel. I tried explaining this to the waitress and she said it'd be 3 minutes, I told her I'd been here nearly an our, I have to go back to work now and won't be able to have the food. Then a waiter brought up a ciabatta thing and gave it to my friend - it wasn't even what she ordered! So the waitress called up the manager and I explained again that I'd been here an hour and still didn't have my food to which he actually said 'Well the soup needs to cook!' - FOR AN HOUR?! You're in the restaurant business, surely you know that people won't wait an hour for soup!! People don't tend to wait half an hour if I'm honest, so I repeated, well I have to go back to work without any lunch now, it took an hour and then he said 'well I've not even been an hour so it couldn't have been!' He was so bloody rude I was shocked! I actually hadn't seen him the entire time I was there so if he was downstairs, I imagine he was probably having a nap, and just because he hadn't been there an hour, didn't mean I hadn't!! They didn't even apologise! Then the waiter just brought up my friend's salmon and avocado bagel... WITHOUT THE AVOCADO! It was ridiculous. The service was slow, staff were rude, the manager was ignorant and they couldn't even take down a simple lunch order. AND they made us pay for the bagel and our drinks, despite not receiving any service. I told my colleagues at work and they're completely put off and spreading the word. Nice little wine cafe with good food and drink, though at times less than ideal. For a wine cafe I expected a better selection of rosé, rather than the standard two. One of our group asked for and was charged for the mushrooms on toast and was served buttered mushrooms with a few crackers, and we accepted to prevent further prolonging the wait time. The salmon on toast by comparison was much better, and arrived on pieces of actual bread. The place is a little pricey in some respects but I feel as though it provides decent value for money. It is a little loud inside, and though that is no fault of the restaurant, it did make conversation somewhat difficult at times. I would recommend this place, but make sure of the evening you’re expecting to have, as at times it felt more like a bar atmosphere...

Horrible service and really nasty behaviour from staff. My friend and I were told to leave the restaurant after we had finished our drinks because we were "occupying too much space" whilst working. I had been told this was a great place to ask, but instead suffered a really humiliating experience. When I asked for further explanation, the waiter told me I was "an extremely arrogant and rude person" for sitting there and trying to work with my drink. Bear in mind the cafe was pretty much empty at the time so I definitely was not taking up valuable space. Also over-expensive food and drink from past experiences.
