The Star — Restaurant in Oxford

Really bad experience. Myself, a male and a female friend went to go for a couple of pints after work. Upon entering the pub the man who I believe runs the place (scruffy patchy beard, messy hair, very large and sweaty looking) refused to serve my male and female friend. We asked why he was refusing to serve us and his reasoning was that my male friend had made a sexist comment/joke a month before and it had offended a person (landlords girlfriend). I asked the landlord if he could tell us exactly what this comment/joke was and he couldn't. I asked if he had any idea what was actually said and he couldn't give me an answer. Instead the landlord became extremely angry and started going into some kind of nonsensical political ramble about how I am a man and therefore have power over women and I shouldn't be able to make jokes or criticise the behaviour of women because of the patriarchy. The whole time my female friend was stood there absolutely shocked.

Two male friends who she feels comfortable with had taken her out for a drink, but the landlord who was a man, refused to serve her (a woman) a drink whilst he stood there trying to preach to us about female oppression and how men have too much power. He literally got aggressive with myself and my female friend and refused to serve us whilst stood there claiming to be some kind of saviour of women. I suggest the landlord has a bath, puts some clean clothes on that actually fit him, trims and cleans up his beard, brushes his hair and keeps politics out of the pub. Great pub with a lovely sunny beer garden. Plenty of outdoor seating & space inside as well. The interior ceiling is covered with beer mats from all different countries and companies, which adds a really nice homey touch and it's fun to spot your favourites.
