Unfortunately after discovering this and thinking it would be great we actually watched the way the duty manager handled food and were appalled.

This place is very reasonably priced, and we were happy until we watched a chap called Ollie Lleys, the Duty Manager handle food (his name and job title were written on his shirt).

We watched this manager handle all the pieces of food on the breakfast stand with his bare hands, without washing them.

He started by touching the scrambled egg, which we found pink pieces of bacon in to which Ollie disagreed and said it was bits of scrambled egg that was stuck to the bottle of the pan and had been stirred up so that it would last longer? Which is gross for a start.

We watched him test his theory, which seemed unusual he needed to taste it to be sure, however he was still happy to serve this to people who told him they were not meat eaters. He tested the food by picking it out of the tray with his fingers and eating it out of his hands. Not changing the egg over after and leaving it for others to eat!

He then went onto touch his long beard and then serve someone eggy bread by also picking up the bread with his bear hands and not washing in between either!

No beard nets or hair nets worn by this chap despite having very long hair in a pony tail behind his back and a long beard.

He then decides to test the temps of the food with a pronged device you insert into the food. Still hasn’t washed his hands.

He continues to pick up pieces of bacon, sausages, veggie sausages, hash browns and so on all with his fingers! Poking them with this temperature gauge inserting it straight into the food. Wiping it with a piece of blue roll only in between meat, eggs, potato etc, everything on the breakfast counter. The piece of blue roll was not changed once, used the same piece between each type of food, not considering cross contamination at all and not properly cleaning the device at all.

All of this was done in between serving on the till, which you guessed it he didn’t wash his hands after using this either!

If you would like to contract covid or salmonella from this establishment feel free! And if you would like to eat products advertised as vegetarian but clearly cross contaminated then again be my guest but we shall not return and I suggest you go elsewhere.

There was a large sign on the wall about cross contamination which was ironic.

I don’t expect much from a cheap breakfast, however I was disgusted watching this member of staff and his food handling practices were awful. The only person I saw wearing a hair net was someone who emerged from the kitchen at one point.

I do not recommend this place to eat in at all. There were 8 of us in attendance watching this chap...

Absolutely disgraceful! Start off when seated which took 10 mins waiting for someone to come to realise we was standing at the door we had to get someone to tell them we had a booked table for 17:30pm. The gentleman working the bar had full knowledge we was there. Nothing wrong to say someone will be with you or aid us to anyone working there! When seated we had to use an app for table service which I do not mind but in our group they did not have the technology to adapt to this option when they asked someone to take the order a reply of just try the app which I thought was abit rude as they didn't have the technology for this to be done ! When drinks arrived we thought non the wiser get over it as food was ordered. When I picked up my babies bag, it was full of dog hairs. I was discussed! It was all over my trainers also. There was that much hair I could even pet it ! I understand this must be a dog friendly environment but when next to the eating restaurant I find this Absolutely disgusting as people eat there. The table where we was sat clearly has not been cleaned. The chairs was filthy and as mentioned full of dog hairs. Also where we was sat there was mould on the wall next to where we was sat again I find these conditions poor whilst eating. A hour passed and we was waiting on our starters we acknowledge there was a 30 minute wait but to wait over a hour, I thought that it's abit of a joke. We pulled a worker to explain we have waited over a hour so said they will go and check to be told our starters are on the way. We waited another half hour. Apparently there was a mix up with the orders. I'd understand if the place was busy but there was around 10 tables with customers for food! Is there only one chef on? Anyway starters was erm ... okay ! Okay value for money! Another hour passed and was still waiting on the mains by this point my daughter ate there sausage mash and beans which she thrown back up. So enough was enough we decided to leave. I appreciate the manager understanding what had gone on with our experience at this place ! He gave us a full refund for the food! So I'm highly disappointed of this place and AVOID...

After coming to this pub for years, we have been finally able to return after covid ect, we returned for a family members birthday as it's our favorite place to eat while I'm Cornwall. How disappointed we were! Couldn't book a table, phone went to voicemail Straight away, email response was even worse. Ok your running at a reduced capacity. Went for walk in. Sign outside saying they were full but loads of tables inside empty and got a table straight away. People in front of us as well Menu was less than desirable, I remember sea food on the menu as your by the sea. Ok was on a Sunday so thought we would have a carvery, but was told it was not available. Meat still on the hot plate.....don't know what happened there. Food was warm at best and portions were small (we actually went to McDonald's straight after and was a better meal as we were still hungry) So family member left a honest review expecting a reply maybe apologizing and inviting us back during the week if a different menu was available, was very very surprised to be attacked in a response by the owner? After working with customers myself for years I know the way to handle good and had bad comments and trust me you don't! We were intended to come back during the week as it may be a one off but after that not now. Will never come back, after recommending this place to family and friends after years of great food and service I will be telling people to not waste their time and hard earned money. Let's see what response I get.

Owners response has...

Fantastic restaurant/pub! This pub offers a lot to many people. With both inside and outside seating area the pub can occupy a lot of people's time and offers a wide selection of products such as Proper Job and Rattler. The drinks here are of good quality. The food here was some of the best I have had during my annual holiday to the St Ives/Cornwall area. Food such as Eggs, Onion Rings and Meat were all cooked brilliantly and all very tasteful. Furthermore, the desserts were also nice and everything came in plenty enough quantity. The staff here were all very nice and up for a chat. Bar and table service were all handled accordingly. Their response to COVID-19 is also commendable with glass panels blocking areas of contact at the bar between staff and customers as well as enforcing various social distancing rules. The prices here were also in line with what is to be expected. Definitely recommend this pub and will definitely be returning when I visit next year!

Having eaten here several years ago, we were pleased/relieved to find a free table after a few hours on Perranporth beach. I love a Ploughman's Lunch so I was happy to see this on the menu with a Cornish cheese option. I certainly didn't regret my choice and the cheeses and bread were particularly good. My husband enjoyed his local mussels too, which I did try and liked too. Good varied menu, including veggie options and choices for children. Seating area outside and dog friendly.

Fantastic place, recently refurbished too, lovely interior decor, and friendly welcoming staff. Food was fantastic, great value for money, with ample portion sizes. Extensive menu, with options for everyone. I (being a lifelong vegetarian) opted for the Halloumi and Beetroot Burger, with optional fries and coleslaw. It was (excuse my words) bleddy ansome ! Well worth a visit, but as can be expected, probably packed in the summer being so close to Perranporth's beach ..
