It had been a long and hot walk from Crantock, a few miles to the north, through the back of Polly Joke, across Cubeet Common, dropping into the back of Holywell. Finally we arrived at the northern and remote extreme of Perranporth Beach, descending to the sand by the site of sacred spot that marks the point where the patron saint of Cornwall, Pirran, landed.

Nothing about this windswept and largely untouched end of the beach can prepare you for the village tucked into the cliff at the southern end, which is utterly overwhelmed by the many summer visitors who come to enjoy its charms.

We stopped to slake our thirst at ‘The Watering Hole’ a pub built on the sand, then ventured into the Main Street to wait for the bus back. Such is the level of traffic throughout North Cornwall, that the bus was an hour late. The driver later told us that this was entirely normal.

As we waited we enjoyed the busy street scene and basked in the sun, in front of us, cars tried to find parking spots in the oversubscribed municipal car park. An immaculately restored azure blue VW Camper came past, with an equally beautiful restored Mini Mal on top. It turned gingerly into the height restricted car park, just making it under the bar, that was until it came to the tail fin of the board, which ripped clean off, taking the end of the...

Perranporth Beach is a beautiful, wide, flat stretch of golden sand that’s perfect for families, beachgoers, and watersport enthusiasts. The beach is great for bodyboarding and skimboarding, especially when the tide is out, leaving plenty of space to play and explore. Just be aware that the tide comes in very quickly, so it’s good to keep an eye on it!

There’s a small car park right by the beach which is really convenient, though it can fill up quickly during peak times. The surrounding area has a good mix of bars, restaurants, and shops close to the seafront, making it easy to grab a bite or browse.

One downside we found was that many of the local eateries closed quite early — by 5pm most places had stopped serving food, which made it a bit difficult to find somewhere for an evening meal. It’s definitely worth planning ahead or eating earlier in the day if you’re visiting.

Overall, it’s a lovely beach with a laid-back vibe, great for a day in the sun — just don’t leave...

I absolutely love perranporth beach it was the first time I'd been (we went back a couple more times before my hoilday ended) It's a very big beach especially when the tide goes out ,it's also has lifeguards possibly only in summer I'm.not sure though, when the tide comes in you have to move right back near the watering hole pub so can get litter crowed but another of people had gone home by then . Once the tide goes right out you can explore round the other side ,kids can explore the the rock pools left behind, there also a tidal pool next the the massive rock in the middle ,you can get in it ,it got spoilt by a couple people throwing dog balls so the dogs jumped in while kids were in the I think they could of waited . The beach is nice and sandy and clean there toilets cleos eby and shops ,ice cream shop ,fish and chips ,pasties etc .

On the beach is the watering hole pub ,they also sell hot food ,only down fall is the toilets not...
