Not been for a while but Came in for breakfast greeted by Kaz who was lovely and checked we had everything we needed, food was lovely with Chef Ryan making sure everything was topped up was very cheery, funny and professional backed up by James aka ‘bob’ who also took the time to talk to us and have a laugh. The food was very nice, not dripping with fat and partner stated the black pudding was the best he had- not dry at all like other places can be, well presented and freshly cooked with constantly being topped up rather than lots of food sitting for a long time and without a long wait in between top ups! £5.99 for carvery style breakfast- weekends is £1 more but you get more- waffles, yorkie pudding, bubble and squeak ect

Ive always enjoyed previous trips to the Lord Louis however it seems to have gone downhill a bit since then. My friend and I booked in advance and due to my being someone with a hidden disability I knew there would probably be feral kids screaming their heads off so I made a note to take my noise cancelling headphones which let me tell you make a meal at the Louis so much more relaxed and peaceful. Upon arriving we were shown to a table in what seemed like the noisiest area of the restaurant but luckily someone on the table next to us moved and we relocated. So down to ordering which was fun. We opted for the large carvery option and was assured that our carvery tickets would be bought to us however almost 20 minutes after ordering we were still waiting for our food tickets. We were actually offered our dessert before our dinner too which was quite funny. Despite appeals to the server and host at the door we still didn't receive our food tickets and were instead given a receipt of our order which when presented to the server at the carvery counter he mentioned we didn't have the correct tickets. He did serve us though and was very polite and courteous however we ordered a large carvery each and there was only 2 meats available namely gammon and Turkey which I never order at a carvery but we had no choice as the beef was still cooking and there was no other meat options. Next onto the accompanying options which I had to guess what some of them were as they were not labelled but there was plenty available. Onto the sauces and gravy there was also no labelling especially on the gravy so it was impossible to tell the difference between normal gravy and vegetarian gravy if that's what it was. I feel labelling is important at a carvery as some people may be allergic to some of the options and it would take guesswork out of the equation. The food on a whole was delicious and well cooked although it would have been nice to have more meat options but due to the slowness of the service getting our tickets to us we missed out. Before leaving I visited the disabled toilets which look like they've never been cleaned as there appeared to be faeces on the wall near the toilet as well as stains on the wall. The vent above the toilet itself looked like.it hadnt been cleaned in forever which I was diagustwd by. The facilities were in need of repair as there was a hole in the ceiling above the door and a broken lock on the door. A replacement lock was fitted but I fear anyone using the toilet in a wheelchair may struggle to reach it. In the restaurant itself there was a section of wallpaper hanging off the wall next to our table (No. 16). Unfortunately my phone died before we left the restaurant so didn't get a photo of it. The Louis could do with closing the premises temporary to deal with these issues and update the restaurant as its definitely lost some of its shine as the best carvery in Plymouth.

I can’t really give a positive review on the meal, the table service was poor. The starters arrived and the crispy prawns were very crisps, 1 person had 4 prawns , the other person had 5 prawns, the garlic mushrooms were ok. However the starters were poorly presented and came just on some lettuce. It was the main course that was very different, to start the waitress arrived with our main courses but hadn’t cleared our starters so we had to do that for her. We asked for ketchup and mayonnaise but that took forever, Then the first burger arrived and I didn’t quite no what to think, as I thought the portion of chips may have been wrong but it wasn’t. we were also missing a bowl of roasted potatoes but instead of them arriving, the manager randomly came over and gave me £2.49 in change as a refund, and just said we are know sold out. Next one of the burgers was missing the upgrade to franks hot sauce fries, the chef who had brought out the burger said “it wasn’t on the ticket and no one told him”. Yes it was on the ticket. What appeared after about 10 mins is in the photo. I don’t think any real cheese was used on the meals (possibly on the pizzas), Burgers were very bland, i only ate half the burger and I couldn’t bring my self to eat the hot sauce fries. This was for a table of 6 for my son’s 16th birthday, it shouldn’t make a difference why we went, but I’m very disappointed. The only part where I can actually give a Positive and good review about was the woman/person who served us our drinks and took the order at the bar. She would get 5 stars!

I wasn't expecting much, and The Lord Louis didn't meet that expectation. Popped in for a bite to eat at lunch while waiting for a car MOT. The Lord Louis goes for an atmosphere of 'depressing' and manages to nail it. I went for the chicken sandwich (see the on-theme depressing photo). No cutlery or condiments bought with it. Some squashed basic bread not quite filled with a single piece of chicken, and some undercooked chips. Asked if I could have some ketchup and got a blunt "no" from the lovely barperson. Thankfully, a more helpful member of staff found some for me. The lady on the table next to me ordered a BBQ chicken burger. It came without any BBQ sauce. When the lady asked for some BBQ sauce, a big fuss was made. Eventually she was allowed some "this time" and the ever-cheerful barperson said they'd normally charge for it. Thank goodness for small graces, I suppose. If you have very very low expectations of places to eat, this is a great place to come. If you get out of bed with a positive outlook on life, I'd avoid it.
