We had heard great things about El Greco so we booked a table to celebrate the fact that it was a year before our wedding day! We took a while to choose our meal as the menu sounded so tempting. We went for a selection of dips and pitta as we didn’t want to feel too full before our mains arrived. The dips were really tasty and we asked to keep the remainder for our mains. I ordered Moussaka and my fiancé ordered the mixed souvlaki. When the plates arrived we just looked at each other is surprise. Usually I’m one of those people who stop everyone from eating before I take a food photo….this time it was far from my mind! My moussaka looked (and tasted) very bland, to add some taste to it, I mixed the dressing from my ‘salad’ with it. The salad was merely a pile of bagged lettuce which I had to remove the hard stems from….not a Greek salad to me! My fiancé was shocked to see that his mixed souvlaki was served on a plate of chunky frozen chips but we celebrated that he found 3halves of cherry tomatoes underneath his leaves. The older members of staff didn’t seem very engaging with the customers and didn’t seem happy to be there which was sad to see as it was busy and the venue looks beautiful. The majority of the diners looked happy so maybe we ordered the wrong dishes but sadly we won’t be returning and will continue to dine at Steki, and Agora in future to get our...
Read moreI can quite confidently say and with no hesitation at all, that finally, FINALLY, Portsmouth has a Greek restaurant worth raving about!
✅️ Hospitality, excellent. From the waitress from Athens to the fabulously delightful owner Kristos Serani from Rhodes.
Showing true Greek hospitality, warm and welcoming and the very definition of 'Filoxenia' (being a friend to a stranger). It didn't feel like we were his customers, we felt as close as friends.
✅️ The restaurant is warm and cosy, with traditional and tasteful Greek decor (not stereotypical) throughout.
🇬🇷
✅️ Food...just look at those portions! Absolutely scrumptious food and such generous portions!
Gyros, souvlakia, Tzatziki, Greek salads, pittas, sharing platters and the loukoumades to finish 😍❤️.
The meat just fell apart and was beautifully seasoned - no one from our party touched the salt!
My dad admitted this was the best Greek food he'd tried in the UK and he's Greek.
Greece's finest has arrived in Portsmouth and even for a Sunday, the restaurant isn't short of business!
Kristos Serani (the owner), consider us customers for life!
Wishing you and your family the very best of luck and success. Yamas! 🥂
Thank you for the Ouzo shot to finish, such a lovely touch and just like...
Read moreI had been recommended this place and it was our first visit. We were able to walk in not long before 5.30pm without a reservation, and they did have a table available. We ordered the El Greco salad, which they modified as I don't like olives or cucumber. Also, 2 mixed souvlaki. I was disappointed by the serving sizes. The salad was a side salad but cost £9.50! It was so expensive for some peppers, tomatoes, onions, feta, and swimming in olive oil. I was expecting a leaf salad with those listed ingredients added to it. I'm so glad I ordered the salad and the souvlaki. Otherwise, I would have been so disappointed and hungry!! The souvlaki was just a small portion, too. It tasted ok, nothing amazing, and the pork was a bit fatty. Once again, covered in olive oil that the flatbread was greasy and soggy. The chips were cooked well. The total meal with 2 soft drinks was £51. It's not worth it at all and won't be returning. ----‐-‐---- I appreciate the reply, therefore I have increased the star rating. It was very busy so there are obviously customers that enjoy the food, it just...
