I'm writing this review of Fish Portsmouth while in Cornwall/Penzance. While spending our summer holiday in Cornwall we decided to give a very famous cornish 5 star "seafood bar" a try. So we drove to Penzance with our minds set to one of our favourite bites, crab mayo sandwiches which were indeed very well presented on fancy plates. I obviously had high expectations simply because we were in Cornwall, UK's home of seafood. What a shock we had when we realised that Fish Portsmouth's paper-wrapped crab sanwiches were 10 times tastier than the ones sold for a slightly higher price in a famous Cornwall seafood bar!!! Ladies, Gents, if you want to taste the BEST crab sandwich on the south coast, give Fish Portsmouth a try! Yes, they don't serve them on plates but the taste is out of this world! Staff has always been very helpful and were happy to answer any questions we had about their products, the place is spotless and their prices are decent for fresh product. Sadly, having written a glowing review after my first visit (see below), my partner went in today (30/5/23) to get 1.5kg of wild sea bass (at £21/kg) only to be told "I can't clean it today", with no reason given 😞

It's so nice to go to a quality fish market. On the flipside, everything looks so good that if, like us, you've got a small freezer, you've got a tough job deciding what to get and what you're going to have to come back for. First world problem!

We started with two whole sea bass, that were an impressive size, compared to the tiny fillets you get in the supermarkets. We had them filleted for us, and kept the rest to make a stock with.
