Sally Antiques — Local services in Portsmouth

I tried to call Sally’s Antiques about a very specific watch they had and they quickly turned me away and told me they wouldn’t help me even though I had specific information that would make it so they could help me over the phone. They quickly hung up on me and left me with more questions that I originally started the phone call with. I’m sure they’re great in person but trying to call them and ask specific questions was a huge let down for sure..

EDIT: In response to what you replied with; I understand you couldn’t do anything with the information you allowed me to provide, what I was going to ask if you would’ve given me the chance to ask was things ABOUT pocket watches and how I could properly take care of it, the watch cases, how to possibly fix it at home if need be, gold care and keeping along with current values, and other things that I figured people selling a watches and other antiques would be able to answer. What didn’t please me is you never gave me the chance to explain that, you quickly turned me down all because I didn’t come into the store physically to let you see the watch. I have the sku number for my watch that you claimed to have needed to do anything over a phone with. Those kind of things are when displeased me, if you can’t answer what in my opinion is basic information for items you’re selling over the phone then there’s no sense in having a number for people to call. I picked your store because you sold similar items to my family air loom so I figured you guys would be best fit for answering those kinds of basic inquires about pocket watches. This is my opinion having dealt with plenty of other business willing to help me get basic knowledge and understanding about items I have. I will continue to take my business...

I recently visited Sally Antiques new shop in Old Portsmouth. This place is full of interesting antiques with a wide selection of antiques and collectibles.

I spent most of my time browsing the militaria section and chatting to Jerry who is a fountain of knowledge on everything military and arms/armour, I don’t doubt he’s also an expert in other areas too. As an amateur collector it was nice to gain some more information and eye up some pieces to add to my collection. I will definitely be returning and I encourage everyone to go and have a wonder round as they have literally all sorts. The staff are friendly and are happy to help you find things if you are looking for something in particular.

These guys also have a good website that’s regularly updated with new stock and a Facebook and YouTube page with informative videos about the various items that come into the shop. Definitely worth checking out if you aren’t necessarily local to Portsmouth.

My boyfriend and I were really looking forward to visiting sally antiques after looking at the website and looking at the other reviews. Unfortunately our visit was a rather sad one. Within about 10 minutes of being in the shop we asked by the gentleman if we were looking for anything in particular. We politely replied that we hadn’t found anything at that point but thank you. He then replied “well just remember that this is a shop and not a museum. “ We thought that this was a rather abrupt and rude answer and when we decided to look upstairs he followed us and it was very clear that he didn’t want us in the shop as once upstairs he continued to follow behind us.
