Went to midnight Mass this Christmas Eve. It was very nice with the exception of a few problems. Without wanting to be too picky because nothing is perfect. BBC 1 were there to broadcast the service live on air. That would have been a good opportunity to have put up a couple of screens so that the people seated in the nave could see the ceremony at the altar and the choir. We couldn’t see anything! Plus the sound system in the church leaves a lot to be desired, meaning many of us couldn’t hear what some of the speakers were saying. Plus everyone in the congregation were given a candle to hold which was a bit stupid. A few people I saw spilled candle wax by accident on the people’s coats sitting in front! The BBC only filmed one side of the church with a boom arm which meant, only one half of the church could be seen on TV. On our way out I could hear a few of the clergy moaning that not enough people were handing in their money envelopes! That’s because people wanted to leave as soon as possible. They should have charged people a nominal fee on entry. Or at least the priest could have asked everyone to contribute something on their way out! The whole event could have been better organised...

The Carol Service 21st December was excellent , it felt warm and welcoming . The music and the choir were incredible! The serenity was slightly marred by the distraction of two adults walking around with very loud restless toddlers. I understand inclusivity is important as is respect for others wanting to appreciate and show respect for the many hours of rehearsals involved. The range of readings, including one in Ukrainian and the selected choral music made it really special. So good to see someone signing for the entire service with passion and what a good idea that the services are now streamed to those who are unable to attend. It felt like a refreshing, accessible approach for the whole community celebrating Christmas and the Southwick Christmas tree looked absolutely...

We visited during the opening of Cathedrals at night, but we visted before Sunset so sadly did not get to experiance it in full on the outside. Inside spaced out was beautiful coloured lights giving a more relaxed and friendly tone.

There was some very interesting parts as we walked around giving the history of sections or items on display.

Everyone there was warm and friendly during our short visit. We was asked to fill out a form when we arrived about our visit. I don't mind feedback, but yeh don't unless they have shortened it. It does not display correctly in horizontal orientation and it's question after question. Towards the end I gave up and randomly hit options. Multiple questions could have been merged. The only downside...

I have some memories from when my Grandparents lived in Portsmouth, but as they moved away in 2004, I didn't get to go back here for many years, even though I regularly visit the city with my family. Now that I'm studying in Southampton, it's easier for me to travel into Portsmouth on my own, and the cathedral was one of the things that I desperately wanted to do. The outside never disappoints because of its stunning architecture, but the inside is just how I remembered it from when I was a child, and it'll always remain one of my favourite places of worship to visit! Plus I'd love to give a massive thanks to all the volunteers who run the cathedral and keep it in fantastic shape!
