What a shame.
Our visit could/should have scored 5 stars. First all the good things - we explained that this was our first visit to a Portuguese restaurant. A recommendation was helpful. We very much enjoyed the Porto Steak with its great sauce. We both enjoyed the house rose, and it was kind of the waitress to offer a taste first. Both our deserts were good. I particularly liked the Créma Catalana (forgive the spelling). Coffee was fine. Price was quite good for what we had.
We were looking forward to the sautéed potatoes stated on the menu but there were none, so replaced by fries. There were few choices of wine (not a problem for me), but they did not have the red we chose. The steaks also came with rice, but we had to ask for ours. It arrived on a cold plate, so was like warm. They were readily replaced with apologies. The rice proved to be very nicely cooked. I wish mine was like that! We paid cash as no cards are accepted. Fine, but I had to ask for my change -...
Read moreFirst time visiting last night, on our way to the theatre. Didn't want to drive past the Guildhall, try and park near a restaurant in the town and be too pushed for time.
This place seemed to fit the bill, for a dinner and on to catch the show. What a great decision it was!!
Other reviews have questioned why it isn't more busy. I can see why. We were early (6pm) and the only people there. However, the welcome was warm and friendly.
Starters and mains selected, we didn't to wait long. Very nice hummus but ..... Portuguese sausage!! What an absolute triumph of a dish. 4 sausages served in a wonderful tomato sauce that had just the right amout of 'kick'. Gorgeous.
Partner had a steak skewer and I went with a duck dish. The skewer looked amazing (and tasted as good as it looked) and my dish was also excellent.
Thoroughly dereves it's ranking here, all the more so because it's not in the part of town where all the usual restaurants...
Read moreWent to this fantastic little gem of a restaurant for my son in law's birthday. It was a truly wonderful experience. A little taste of Portugal on the doorstep I just wish I had tried before. The food was fantastic! I highly recommend the 5 tapas with bottle of wine for an amazing £25. The chef cooked up a storm and can only be complimented. The food was fresh tasty and well worth the little wait as cooked to order. The steak was tender and the sardines delicious as for the shrimp they were succulent and juicy and I could not get enough of sauce that was drizzled over them. The owner George was attentive and made you feel as if you were part of the family nothing was too much. A real comforting Mediterranean atmosphere where you can relax and take your time and not feel rushed. As said a really fantastic authentic gem of restaurant. Can not wait for...
