I simply cannot express enough how utterly disappointed I was with my recent visit to The Woolpack in Bandstead. It was an evening filled with nothing but frustration and annoyance, all due to the staff's obnoxious and rude behaviour. Myself and a few friends had planned to enjoy a delightful evening, but it quickly turned into a nightmarish experience.
From the moment we set foot in the establishment, we were met with profoundly intrusive staff members who seemed to have no concept of personal space or boundaries. Instead of extending a warm and respectful welcome, we were bombarded with unwelcome interruptions and interference throughout the evening. The lack of professionalism displayed by the staff was evident, as they prioritised a personal issue with a lady who was unwilling to leave with her friend, over attending to their actual customers.
To make matters worse, it appeared that the staff were more interested in voicing their own opinions and concerns about the situation, rather than fulfilling their duties as hosts. It is utterly incomprehensible that they deemed it appropriate to involve us in their dispute with the lady. Our intention was to enjoy quality time with our friends, not to be entangled in their drama.
And let us not overlook the deplorable state of the toilets. If the staff were so preoccupied with someone's refusal to leave the premises, perhaps they should have directed their attention towards maintaining basic hygiene and cleanliness. The condition of the toilets was utterly disgusting, which clearly reflected the complete lack of care and attention given to the upkeep of the establishment.
The staff's behaviour was unprofessional, intrusive, and simply beyond rude. I would strongly advise anyone contemplating a visit to this place to think twice. There are far superior options in Bandstead, where you can indulge in a pleasant and respectful evening without having to endure the unfortunate chaos that plagues The Woolpack. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of this establishment. Lastly, I must add that during my time at The Woolpack, I've observed many incidents that left me utterly dismayed. It seems the establishment has a policy of refusing entry to local residents based on their work attire. On a Friday afternoons, hardworking man who had just finished their work have been denied entry, which I find absolutely ridiculous for...
Read moreReviewing afresh as been refurbished at end of Last year 2019.
Venue brought upto date decor wise, about time but always had a homely feel.
Went in 3 times in December 2019 and recently in March, so updated review.
Food still good, if a little to standard, gastro pub wise. Not tried a fish dish to test the quality but friends and wifey all enjoyed the roast dinners. My Cajun chicken burger meal was good but a little overcooked, a bit tougher than would have liked, otherwise good. Recent Fish & Chips were great too.
One positive, you don't feel your being overcharged since reopening, now the two negatives.
We have a little girl, and website has a good children's menu but inside, no where to be seen. First two times in December I had to mention it and get confirmation chef could do macaroni cheese. Very good when it was served and staff very attentive to the request. Returned last week with our littlun and very pleased to see children's menu available as well usable for colouring in and pencils.
Other irritation on Christmas Eve, after working half day and arriving for a Christmas family drink, little girl has a fruit juice. Got turned away, albeit politely, if not having a meal. So over £200 pounds spent previously, doesn't allow you to decide, to just have a drink on third visit. Disappointing and short sighted.
Otherwise, a good local gastro style pub and worth checking out if your...
Read moreWe stayed at the Woolpack Inn for my husbands birthday surprise. The pub itself is very nice and we enjoyed a lovely meal and also breakfast, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the pub very busy which I find is always a good sign. The accommodation however was a disgrace! We payed £86 for the room which didn't include breakfast, so in total we paid approx £140 to stay for one night, for that amount I would expect a fairly nice room. I can honestly say I have never stayed anywhere worse, the room was TINY! you couldn't swing a cat, completely dated and dirty... marks up the walls and furniture damaged and worn, the bed had springs which popped up every time you moved during the night and creaked very loudly! The bathroom was also tiny and dirty and you couldn't fit more than one person in it at one time. Such a shame as could be a lovely little place to stay with improvements. The village itself is beautiful and worth a visit, but don't stay at this pub and expect too much. I would to add I have never left a review before, but I felt so strongly about our stay here that I wanted too, I spent a long time researching and reading reviews and left very...
