I've been coming here for years and I usually really like it. However, I got the stack of 3 "American Style" pancakes (£6.70) and was left incredibly disappointed. It comes with one topping and any additional toppings are £1 extra. I originally asked for the pancakes with blueberries and the woman who served us responded "just blueberries?" So I got maple syrup as well. I should've known by her reaction that the pancakes would be plain but for the price I'd expected better, some blueberry compote or at the very least, cream or even butter. If there is an option of getting just blueberries it should be a complete meal with just blueberries however if I hadn't got the maple syrup it would have been basically inedible because of how dry they would've been. The pancakes were also very thin and I'm not sure what about them made them "American style". I'm also not convinced the maple syrup was actual maple syrup. This experience aside, Maxwells itself is a nice café bar with a good atmosphere and the staff are usually pleasant.

We went to Clitheroe for the day and were pleased to find out it had a castle on a big hill, great views but many steps which brewed up an appetite. Apparently Maxwells Cafe Wine Bar is the place to be and be seen in this town, so we went there. The service was very friendly and fast. They weren't pushy or impatient, they let us order in our own time. The food was great. I went for an halloumi burger which came topped with probably the best onion rings I've ever had. They were crisped to perfection. The burger and fries were also very tasty and I gobbled down the lot. My wife enjoyed what she had and so did the kids. If I ever come back to Clitheroe, I'll make sure I stop by again. Full marks for everything!

Staff were very friendly & pleasant service. Food was reasonably priced. Unfortunately the food at the time wasn’t the best quality, the fries were swapped as they tasted greasy. The chicken sandwich wasn’t paid for as the chicken was rubbery, overcooked and had a lot of sinues(the bloody red chunky bits of lower quality Breast). The sausage and cheese sandwich was nice, maybe just a little less cheese, never thought I would complain about cheese but it’s the largest wedge I’ve ever seen. The drinks were reasonably priced. We did have an issue with the bill at the end, mainly due to us moving table, they rectified without question which was great service and handy to just get sorted right away. Staff service & understanding off issues was amazing, a little refinement and more care in preparation of food & would be a great place. Has not put me off and I will return to see what else the place has to offer & If it was just a blip, we’re all human at the end of the day!

Nice to see a vegan menu with a lot of options. The food was what you expect for a cafe. Enjoyable and ate the lot. The only thing I didn’t like was the slate it was served on. It’s a bit 2010! And all in all just awkward to navigate with the salad falling off and touching the table. The salad was nice but not cheap for what it was. The service was friendly but slow at parts. The man who served us on 25/4/23 at 3:30pm (dark hair, slim) was the star of the show and gained a star or two. He clocked out at 4pm and we felt forgotten about. It would have been miserable without him. What a legend! We will be back, but not in a rush.

A lovely corner cafe-bar with a good range of food and drinks, reasonably priced. Service is friendly but a little slow at busy periods (and they don’t seem to scan the tables to see if customers require help often enough) and food takes a while to come. It’s difficult to get food and a hot drink arriving at the same time as they have different prep places for both. That having been said, it’s one of Clitheroe’s more popular places, and deservedly so for its lovely layout, classy style, warm welcome and convenient location.

Visited for tea on a Friday night, Maxwells has a really good vegan menu, just a shame they don't label which wines are vegan. I had already done some research beforehand so ordered a Pinot Grigio. We had vegan nachos, salt and pepper hash browns and a tomato & cheese gnocchi bake. The food was delicious, the nachos and hash browns are light bites but are good sized portions, we left clean plates. Service was great from Sarah and the young front of house team. Will definitely revisit very soon.
