★☆☆☆☆ Absolutely appalling experience – avoid at all costs

I rarely leave reviews, but my recent experience at The Ale House compels me to warn others. I was rudely refused service despite presenting valid and clear identification proving I was of legal drinking age. The staff made no genuine attempt to verify it, nor did they treat me with even basic courtesy. Instead, I was spoken to with condescension and suspicion, as though I were trying to deceive them – I wasn’t.

The most frustrating part? There was zero professionalism. No apology. No explanation beyond a smug dismissal. Just an arrogant attitude and a total unwillingness to listen or help. I was left embarrassed and genuinely shocked at how poorly I was treated.

Establishments like this forget that they rely on customers – not the other way around. I won’t be returning, and I’ll be encouraging others to take their business elsewhere. If you value respectful service and basic decency, The Ale House is not the...

The Ale House is brilliant ! From friendly staff to a fantastic range of craft beers, and a comedic Quiz Night host (last Thursday in the month from around 7pm l think), you're guaranteed a great time. I recommend the Guinness alternative that's got a creamy, coffee taste. There's a certain other real ale shack l used to frequent just around the corner that chooses to close at night whenever they want, even if the place is full of customers. Well, they've lost 3 customers here to a better place that's open normal hours. See you in...

Great beer in a welcoming environment. The Ale House in Clitheroe is a real gem. The selection of craft beers is truly excellent and the atmosphere entices you to linger in comfort for much longer than you intended. Simon, the landlord, spent time with us explaining the background and distinct qualilties of each of the ales and we were encourged to try them before settling on a favourite. He has more than twenty years experience as a publican and his customers really benefit from that expertise. What a great find;...

10/02/24: The Wright Wedding. Pre-drinks before getting ready! Marble Brewery: Marble Stout 5.7% and Marble Brewery: Hindmarch pale ale 3.7% 02/10/23: back again, with friends this time from work. Spreading the craft ale word! Phil enjoyed a good sing song on thebpiano upstairs! 17/04/23: what a fabulous choice of craft ale, even though I fancied a sour. We had the Vocation Brewery; Twix stout and the Black Edge Brewing; Pike pale ale. Good service. Dog friendly. Definitely lots of choice!

Cask, European and Craft Ale house, with a micro bar ambience but spread over two floors. Reclaimed wood panelled throughout, there's 5 cask pumps, and a wide array of craft and European bottles and cans. There's a classic games table console upstairs. Toilets are upstairs but there's a accessible toilet on the ground floor #OneAccesibility

A proper ale house in the heart of Clitheroe. Plenty of ales on tap and bottles in the fridge. The wood panneling creates a cosy atmosphere. Every time we go on a Sunday, Thea looks after us so well, and that's why we keep going back. Plenty of outside seating in the sun during lockdown easing too.
