Fletchers House — Restaurant in Rother

What has happened here? We used to regularly dine here with both friends and family. We were always recommending it as the best restaurant in Rye and rated it 5*+ always. It has gone downhill very badly. The chef and maitre d' have gone. The menu, which we found unfathomable, has changed and it is no longer a place ‘for fine food’ sadly but just another ‘sort of café’ and we have enough of those already in Rye. It does not seem to know what it is anymore. The young staff are unprofessional, untrained and uninterested. After our main course we were left alone in the front area for nearly an 30 minutes. We saw at least six different people come in, look around, then leave because no staff were present. No one came to check on us or offer a sweet or tea/coffee. I went out to the back to see where everyone was and they were all sitting by the back door step and chatting. Not good enough and I was not impressed. We first tried a grazing board at Fletchers a few months ago and were so impressed we asked them to cater our wedding. From start to finish Lisa and the team took the stress out of our DIY wedding. A tasting was included, allowing us to be involved in the overall design of the boards - a really nice and personal touch! On the week of the wedding the team checked in and made sure we were happy and were so responsive and accommodating to any last minute questions or requests! On the day of the wedding the team arrived early, set up effortlessly and made the tables, welcome drinks table and whole venue look better than we could have dreamed. As for the food, the grazing boards looked INCREDIBLE on the day and they were so beautifully presented with such attention to detail. Not only that, but everything was DELICIOUS! Wow wow wow!! Visited this afternoon and we can’t stop thinking about Fletchers! As ladies who go out to brunch a lot we always leave disappointed by the food, drinks or service as it’s always hard to find somewhere that offers it all… but oh was this a different experience! 5 stars all around! The food was incredible, the coffee tasted beautiful, it was such a lovely atmosphere and we had such kind, friendly service! Nothing was a problem, being checked on, offered more drinks, and served with a smile! The food tasted beautiful, fresh, hot and presentation was 11/10.. We firstly ordered savoury and was so impressed we went in with a second round of sweet! We loved it so much we’ve already planned a return visit next Monday (and we’re not even close by!) but it’s so worth travelling for.
